A genius woman has turned her brand new fridge into her very own wine dispenser and we’re totally behind this awesome upgrade!

When Carol bought her brand new fridge, she didn’t see the inconvenience and stress that many of us associate with shopping for appliances – she saw an opportunity. By dumping a bottle of wine into her fridge’s water dispenser, Carol was able to give her appliance a new and frankly genius purpose purewow.com reports, and it turns out she’s not the only one…

A Lightbulb Moment

Following in Carol’s innovative footsteps, 28 year old Clare Potts had a lightbulb moment when moving house with her boyfriend. Speaking to Mashable, Clare said, “We’ve just bought a house and we’re in the process of buying all the grown up things we need…my boyfriend Joe was telling me [the fridge] came with a wine rack and I just said ‘why don’t we just put it in the water cooler?’ It seemed like the obvious thing to do.” If that’s not the ultimate #adultlife success story, I don’t know what is! Now why didn’t we buy a fridge with a water dispenser!?

The Perfect Christmas Trick

Clare is quick to point out that the upgrade requires a little bit of maintenance to keep everything tasting just right. “It needs to be washed out after though so it doesn’t get clogged,” she advised. “Oxidised wine is not nice, so drink fast!” And while they don’t use the dispenser for wine all the time, Clare said it will come in handy for special occasions, “Definitely for our house warming and New Years Eve.”

We don’t think there’d be any problem getting through whatever wine the dispenser can hold, especially with Christmas and New Year just around the corner- no more running to the petrol station for ice with perfectly chilled wine for your guests every time!

So whether you’re prepared to risk your pristine fridge for the convenience of a readily available beverage or not, we think there’s something totally genius about this little innovation – don’t pretend you aren’t tempted!

Would you try the fridge wine dispenser for your next party? Tell us in the comments.

  • I’m pretty anal about my water filters and water taste. I wouldn’t like to try to clean the “wine” taste out of it, unless of course they are big wine drinkers and are going to keep it like that?

  • could be a good idea for a party to keep wine chilled.

  • Omg!! Such a great idea!! Although I’d have to keep a close eye on my boys to ensure they didn’t use it.

  • I’m a non drinker but can see many trying this.

  • As I’d be lucky to drink a glass of wine every couple of months, think I’ll pass on this idea. Be great for a big party, but how hard is it to clean it out of the water container and would it freeze? A lot of these dispensers also dispense ice.

    • True, probably quite hard to clean

  • We have a fridge with one of thesewater recesses. It empties very quickly. Putting wine in there is dangerous with kids around.

    • I agree – dangerous indeed with children in a household. Not an idea that interests me at all and I usually like hacks.

  • I drink wine but this is a bit much. I thought these fridges had to be plumbed in by a plumber? I would hate to think the wine might damage some parts. I like to drink my wine fresh so this would be wasted on me, I wouldn’t get through it quick enough!

  • This would be funny to see, but we don’t have a need for it as we aren’t big wine drinkers.

  • It’s a great idea for people who do t have kids but not for me

  • I would love to use this idea however my 6 year old knows how to use the dispenser..so unfortunately it’s a big fat no. Guess I have to keep putting bottles in the fridge..

  • I assume there are no children in this household? Depending on age and height children would be able to access the fridge and the dispenser.

  • Superb idea ! Wonder how many liters the water (or wine) dispenser holds ?

  • I don’t drink wine so I would substitute the wine for sparkling water.
