A two-week-old baby girl was found inside a skip by a man who was collecting old bottles for recycling.

The infant was wrapped in a white towel and sitting on top of the pile of rubbish in Patong, southern Thailand, when the man peered inside, reports The Mirror.

One of the rescuer workers told the local media: “The baby was discovered by a man collecting empty bottles from bins near Patong Municipality.”

He added: “When he went to check one of the bins he saw a smiling baby inside.”

Police believe that although the baby was healthy she was abandoned because her mother could not afford to raise her.

Medics at Patong Hospital say the baby weighed three kilos and had no noticeable health concerns.

The rescue official explained: “We think that the mum must have given birth in one of the island’s hospitals.

“She may have decided to abandon the child because she had no income to support a baby.

“Police are looking for the parents so they can be brought in for questioning.”

So far reports indicate that the baby’s parent have not been found.

  • there should be something done to stop this kind of thing happening – councilling perhaps.

  • I know a family who found a baby wrapped in a quick baby blanket at their front door under a verandah

  • Whether the mum probably could not afford is not an acceptable reason to abandon the child in a bin. Just taking the bub to a hospital and leaving it at the door way would have been a better option.
Do pray both will be ok though.

  • Thank goodness she was unharmed.
I know that the adoption process is long and hard but wouldnt it be wonderful if someone could adopt her and give her a loving home.

  • Glad the girl is found unharmed and healthy. She could have easily have broken bottles and rubbish thrown over her. Home they’ll find a loving and caring family for her.
Reading all the incidents of these unwanted babies shows a world of desperation, loneliness and sadness.

  • If you are homeless and have no money, then I can understand you leaving the baby where it will be found and brought up by someone more affluent than you are.

  • Sad all round for bub and mum. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be in a position to get help. Hope there is a good outcome. These stories are just so sad.

  • Surely the mother could have left this precious child in a hospital rather than a bin.
