Sadly a car crash has killed two young children in southeast Queensland.

A four-year-old girl and six-year-old boy died instantly when a car slammed into tree and split in two at Peaks Crossing south of Ipswich at about 2.45pm on Monday, shares 7 news.

An eight-year-old girl who was in the front passenger seat is in a stable condition in hospital.

The female driver in her 30s, who was airlifted to hospital, is in a critical but stable condition.

The forensic crash unit is investigating but police say that wet weather was likely a factor.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dashcam vision to come forward.

Our thoughts are with the family and all involved.

  • Wet weather combined with speed I would say. People just don’t seem to realise if it’s raining…….SLOW DOWN! And what was an 8 year old doing in the front seat? I thought that was illegal. Terrible tragedy that could possibly have been avoided

    • The driver may not have been speeding. That is sometimes the case but not always. There could have been something on the road that contributed to the tragic accident. I know somebody who was driving very slowly because of poor visibility. He suddenly spun right across the road. Although he had done a defensive driving course and is a very cautious driver anyway he was unable to control his car. There was a “foreign” substance on the road that caused it. He admitted that it really shook him up. He also said it was very fortunate there wasn’t a vehicle coming in the opposite direction.
