You must have read a lot about eye makeup with glasses but have you ever wondered how can you deck up your eyes while wearing contacts? It seems easier than glasses but it can be worse if not done right. If the make-up sticks to your lenses, it can be really irritating. Hence it’s really important to know the right techniques while applying eye-makeup.

If you are someone who cannot live without makeup, no worries, you don’t need to sacrifice your love for makeup.

See clearly and look beautiful by just following the simple but necessary guidelines:

Wash your hands clean

The first and foremost rule is to wash hands properly. Before you do any sort of makeup or apply moisturiser, you will be putting up lenses, so it’s needed that you insert the contact lenses into your eyes with clean hands. Any sort of dust or bacteria stuck on your finger can be harmful for your eyes. Hence wash your hands thoroughly and make sure it’s dry before you take contacts in your hand (on your fingers, to be more precise).

Non-allergenic, oil-free makeup products

There are many reputed cosmetic brands that offer eye-friendly products. Whatever you choose, it should be non-allergenic and oil free. You can ask for products that are ophthalmologist tested or suitable for contact lens wearers. Contacts are tend to attract oil, hence it can hurt your eyes and also create difficulty in viewing. Avoid oil based creams and go for water-based one.

Avoid fibre mascara

Mascara plays an important role in eye makeup but it can also be one of the most irritating cosmetic for contact lens wearers, if not applied properly. While applying, if the excess particle of clumps fall into eyes, it can be a real discomfort. Fiber mascaras can produce micro-flakes which can get into your eyes and cause irritation, so avoid it. Go for the traditional lengthening  or hypoallergenic oil free mascara. Don’t apply mascara right from the root of lashes to avoid contact with the eyes.

Applying of eyeliner

Generally eyeliner is applied on the waterline under the eyelashes which can directly come in contact with lenses. Contact lens wearers have to avoid this common practice and only make a habit to apply liner on the portion which is well away from the eyes. Go for pencil liners rather than the gel or cream types.

Cream or powdered eye shadow?

Well both are actually not suited for lens wearers as excess powder can get into your eyes and cream based one can cause irritation. If you are choosing cream, go fo water-based eye-shadow and if you are opting powder, make sure you brush off the excess eye-shadow before opening the eyes.

Removing make-up

The steps which you followed before applying make-up, it’s somewhat similar and a bit reversal. First wash your hands thoroughly, dry it and then carefully remove the lenses. Make sure it doesn’t come in contact with the makeup on and around your eyes. Only after removing your lenses, you can remove your eye-makeup with makeup remover.

You have to be very careful with eye-makeup if you are contact lens wearer. Never ever use old or expired cosmetics as it can cause eye infection which can be really dangerous.
