Usher opens up about his sons daily struggle and is using his celebrity status as a platform to advocate for a cure for his disease.

Usher’s 7-year-old son Usher V (aka “Cinco”) was diagnosed last year with type 1 diabetes.

Usher spoke exclusively to People telling them how much his son inspires him. “A child that every day has to prick himself and has to be cautious of what he eats and also to carry this disorder around — that really is the type of bravery that we all aspire to have.”

“There’s been some difficult moments,” he says, but “having dealt with it on a daily basis, I have a great deal of understanding of what people have to deal with. It’s personal.”

“I want to be supportive not only as someone who’s vying for a cure, but also as a father who has a child who’s experienced a lot of highs and lows,” he explains.

Usher V is certainly lucky to have such a supportive dad behind him determined to fight the cause. It is great to see he is not afraid to use his status to help.

  • Adults can cope with this insidious disease because they are old enough to reason and understand. But a child just has to have blind faith!
It is wonderful that the parent has such faith in his son.
    Good on you, Usher.
