Do your kids sit still at the hairdressers? With young kids this can be a struggle but I’m not sure this is the solution!

Not sure this would work for my kids, they wouldn’t sit still with terror, they would be hiding!

How do you get your kids to sit still at the hairdressers?

  • My youngest child was scared to go to the hairdresser. Her sisters would be going to get their hair cut and I would ask her if she would like to get her hair cut too and she would always say no. One day instead of just saying no she also added that she was too scared. I asked her why and she said “Because it will hurt”…..she thought that if you cut your hair it would hurt just like if you cut your skin. I explained to her that it doesnt hurt at all and so she decided to give it a try. Was stunned to find it didnt hurt at all.

  • OMG, this would have petrified my son. We used to have to chase him around the hairdressers. I now know the scissor noise near his ear was a problem. He has sensory issues and this exacerbated everything. Thankfully he outgrew it all and loves the hairdressers now.

  • My daughter sits still and is quite serious, she won’t crack a smile, it’s quite funny.

  • My boys worked out that if you sit still then it was over quicker. More time to do other things they enjoyed more. They were always well behaved for that reason

  • Had no problems with my children at the hairdressers – they preferred that to their father cutting their hair.

  • my older two would think its funny, my youngest i wouldnt get through the door he would run and scream.

  • Our little one used to wriggle and scream the whole time her hair was being cut.
The only way it was accomplished was to sit with her on my lap facing me and talk or sing to her calmly. The hairdresser is very good and patient with her. We always go early so there isn’t too many people in the shopping centre.

  • My son is a horror to take to the hairdressers. our record for lenght of time so far is 45 minutes. (we book in advance and let them know it takes so long) The lady we see is so patient and calming that she eventually gets it done. How ever this might distract a child from the actual hair cut!

  • This looks scary, especially for younger kids.
I cut the hair of my kids myself and often let them do a game on the tablet or we sing songs.

  • That’s terrifying, I hate these kind of masks, poor kid!
