An increasing number of parents are giving their children a name with a violent undertone.

Danger, Rogue, Trigger and Arson are just some of the aggressive names that appeared in the top 1000 names on Nameberry.

Cannon or Bowman featured in the top 1000 names between 2014 and 2015.

The most popular was Gunner, with more than 1,500 boys given the name in the space of a year.

Also an increase in babies names after gun manufacturers, reports The Daily Mail.

Names like Barrett, Remington, Kimber, Ruger, Wesson and Browning are on the rise.

The name Sabre has risen in popularity for girls, as has the name Arrow.

In the US, the names Trigger, Shooter, Calibre, Beretta, Saw and Bowman have seen a spike, and are joined on the list by Arson, Danger, Rekker and Rogue.

Military titles as names are also worth noting, with Garrison, Major and General and increasingly popular choice for parents.

Very worrying trend. Can’t say I am a fan of any of these names.

  • Yeah I’m not liking trends like these, but people have the right to call their child what they like…..in 10 years it might be shoe, handbag, belt, hairspray. Ridiculous really.

  • I’m not really a fan of them either. Probably likely to show more in US statistics than Australia I would think. I still feel sorry for the bearer of those type of names.

  • How ridiculous! This a child that has to bear that moniker for its life :/

  • wow who thinks that these names are ok for kids – Trigger is great for a dog but for a little boy?

Naming your kid after your gun brand is totally not cool!

  • I have not met anyone with these names.

  • Some of those names (like Rogue) are actually a nod to characters in books/ movies/ comics/ TV shows.

    • You are right – plenty of names from shows and comics.

  • Except Gunner is s name that’s been around for a long time, Swedish I think. Not sure.

  • Is this based on the US or Australia. Not clear. But I am sure that there are just as many flower and fruit variants of names too.

  • Seems the Government need to have the power to register inappropriate names the same as they can refuse some personalised registered number plates. They probably need to check the meaning of some names given to babies of overseas heritage too.
