We have an open range zoo near Murray Bridge in SA. It is mainly for animals of African origin. Some are endangered in Africa because of poaching and slaughtering. Their remains are not even used for food. You travel around in the zoo in their buses. Security is extremely tight. Gates are closed electronically before others are opened into the next section. Some animals will come up fairly close to the buses, some just ignore them and others move away. Staff on the bus give a commentary. It is next to a large acreage of native scrub land and they have no intentions of ever clearing it. They have volunteers who grow and donate parts of some plants to feed the animals. The monkeys go in large enclosed shelters at night to protect them from predators. I’m not sure what attacks the monkeys but there is huge problems with foxes, eagles and crows in that region. (crows pick out the eyes of sheep). There is also a cafe there. (Food is reasonably priced) and a souviner area.
