Video shows dad beat boxing “raspberries” on his baby’s tummy, the comments that follow are accusing him of torture and abuse.

This video was shared last week on the George Takei Facebook page. It has attracted over 9.7 million views and over 105K shares.

Many of the 34K comments sadly accuse the dad of abuse, saying he is restraining the baby, and bub does not look like he is enjoying the non stop tickling.

“People are already saying they don’t like seeing a child being pinned down or tickled too much. You know what I see? I see a father that’s in his child’s life and is willing to be super goofy just so he can bond with his child. Good for him and all father’s that are in their children’s lives.”

“That’s so cute but at the same time I can’t stand seeing anyone being held immobile and being tickled for too long”

“At 19 seconds in, that baby makes his discomfort very clear. It was uncomfortable to watch. This man is more interested in making this video than the child’s comfort.”

“No. Tickling a baby against its will can be abusive. Look at the way he’s holding that child’s arm. As a licensed massage therapist, I had a few clients who had *serious* touch issues that went back to parents or siblings who tickled them without regard for their wishes. Sure, the kids laugh… but it’s reflexive. NOT a great thing to do.”

“I will say I was a DCYF worker for 15 years, and then ended up giving speeches all throughout NH, MA,. The first instruction you learn is to never tickle a child.”

“This baby is no longer laughing He is screaming. I’m not going to say it’s child abuse, because he is obviously trying to make his baby laugh. But it’s very intense for the baby. Many babies have hernias due to tickling.”

“But they ‘say’ tickling is actually a form of violence, and not really a kind thing to do; when you can’t breathe how can you be having fun?”

“I don’t think that daddy is abusing the baby intentionally….but, tickling is a form of torture if that child doesn’t laugh spontaneously and the adult is prolonging the tickling it can feel overwhelming to the senses just listening to laughter of the baby initially and as he progresses it seemed a bit painful in the sound of the baby’s cry. Just saying I would just do that briefly so as to not overwhelm the sense. Just saying. No criticism to the parent.”

“I understand it made the baby laugh. But he could have had hold the baby’s arm gently.”

  • What a lil cutie!! Seems to me he is loving it, let the haters hate, its awesome to c a dad spending time with a child, n if this is abuse than I’m guilty as well cause I always tickle my kids, I just love the sound of them laughing

  • I don’t believe this is abuse.

  • The child was certainly enjoying the attention from his dad. Get over it folks, leave the PC behind and let two people enjoy each other and have fun.

  • They were certainly having fun but I like others don’t know why he is holding the baby’s arm up like that or quite so tightly. If he held the baby’s arm gently across the chest would have more comfortable.
If it hurt the baby would have cried.

  • i think there is way to many people that just overreact to everything – I bet when they were kids they probably got pinned down and ticked and they turned out fine!

I think it is good to see the baby giggling and the video didn’t really go for that long

  • I wouldn’t say it’s abuse, but it’s a little uncomfortable to watch after a while.

  • I don’t see abuse, but not convinced the child enjoys it either.

  • I personally don’t consider this as abuse. But I agree that the arm could have been hold a little better.
