As women, we are known for our multi-tasking skills.

But we are also human and sometimes we lack that extra energy or motivation to be more productive. And who doesn’t want to be more productive?

It is surprising to know that a more effective day is not concentrating harder and working longer. An increase in productivity is often created by making the most of your time while understanding your limits.

Here are some ways I’ve structured and enhanced my day for maximum output:

Get (more) organised

You cannot be your most productive if you are disorganised and surrounded by clutter.

The best way to organize is to figure out what works for you. Nowadays there are plenty of online apps that can help with this.

Get rid of those random piles of papers and sticky notes and use a simple electronic filing app.

Delegate

You don’t have to do everything. Other people are quite capable of handling some of the tasks you generally reserve for yourself.

Consider which duties you could be sharing with others.

Then start delegating out some of these jobs. This will allow you to focus on your high priority items while giving others a chance to grow and shine.

Take breaks

Even the busiest people need to clear their mind and stretch their legs now and again.

We are all guilty of thinking that we are most productive when we plug through a project without looking up; however a number of studies indicates that taking breaks can decrease stress hormones, increase dopamine and other feel-good hormones.

In other words, breaks make us more productive. Have a break and drink water, and while you’re at it make sure to eat a healthy snack!

Briefly stepping away from your work will relax your body and rejuvenate your mind.

Personalise your workspace

My desk is, well, a reflection of me and my pursuit to stay efficient. Firstly, I have photos of my family surrounding me and some motivational sayings around my desk. All of them inspire me to keep going.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

If you are overwhelmed, and it is causing undue stress, don’t suffer in silence.

Speak with your boss or partner and explain your situation. Allowing your life to overwhelm you week after week, can lead to serious physical, mental, and social problems.

Be positive, and know that there are solutions to your problems, but you will need to seek help.
