This mum stripped her nine-year-old daughter’s room of everything but her bed and one set of clothing.

Amanda Mitchell, of Newfoundland, Canada, shared on Facebook, ‘Welcome to Mummy’s Juvenile Detention Center little girl.’

Ms Mitchell then explained that her daughter would be required to wear the same outfit all week, complete with an anti-bullying shirt, after picking on her best friend, shares Daily Mail.

‘I will wash it at night once she goes to bed, but I won’t tell her that,’ Mitchell wrote.

She also revealed that every day this week her daughter will be required to write, 50 times each, phrases that include: ‘I will not lie’, ‘I will be kind to everyone’, ‘I will behave at school’, ‘I am responsible for my own actions’.

‘And then this child will learn the hard way that we do not act like a******s,’ the mother wrote.

Ms Mitchell revealed that she didn’t usually ‘post this kind of stuff’ on Facebook, but was compelled to because she was ‘so disgusted and disappointed’ in her daughter.

‘I got a call from her teacher on Friday, explaining how Hannah has been acting up all week in class,’ she explained.

‘At least two days in a row she has been found wandering the halls during lunch when she is required to remain with her class.’

‘She was picking on one of her best friends and really hurt the little one’s feelings. Lying to other teachers about her own (AMAZING) teacher.’

‘And generally just acting like an a*****e. Yes, I just said a*****e. Why? Because she’s acting like one. I know she’s not an a*****e, but if the shoe fits, right?’

‘I think the problem with this generation is inadequate punishment. Punishment is bad we should only use positive reinforcement and ignore all bad behavior – NOT in this house.’

Some comments on her post agreed with the mum taking a stand while others were more critical, with one person saying they felt the punishment was ‘extreme’.

Earlier we shared how a Dad come up with a unique punishment for his teenage son after learning he had been bullying students at school. Read that story here.

There was also the story of a dad who punished his son by making him walk to school after finding out he was bullying people on the school bus. Read more here.

Do you think it was extreme?

  • We can only assume that this behaviour isn’t normal for this little girl, and can therefore also assume that the mother sought answers as to why her daughter had a sudden change of character. If there was no underlying reason for it and the girl decided she just wanted to try a rebellious phase, then no, I don’t think the punishment is too harsh at all! The child did a series of bad things: lying about her teacher (god only know what she could have said), bullying her own best friend, and blatantly ignoring school rules! Adults can not get away with such things and this might just be what the girl needs to put her back on the straight and narrow! At the end of the day, she still has food, clothing and shelter. Well done to the mother for taking a stand to defend others! Now a days a lot of parents don’t believe their child is capable of being anything but perfect and will often ignore their child’s behaviour.

  • Too harsh in my opinion. Teaching the child abnormal behaviour.

  • I wonder what punishments she got leading up to that tipping point that resulted in this happening?

  • Harsh lesson for an action she likely will not repeat, that’s for sure.

  • Well done to this mummy. The consequences of bullying are so terrifying and sometimes we need to teach them right from wrong and see it from another persons point of view. This was nothing compared to what we went through being naughty as kids.

  • A harsh lesson, perhaps too harsh.

  • Yes l do believe it is too much.

  • It looks like the girl needed some tough love , hopefully she learnt her lesson.

  • Little over the top. But I’m sure the kid learnt her lesson! I agree that kids need to be held accountable for their actions and have boundaries

  • Interesting strategy but I can’t help feel that Mum is acting like a bully as well. I hope it works to stop the daughter acting out but it is a bit over the top.

    • Absolutely – all it teaches is that adults can bully! The message seems somewhat confused to me.

  • Love what this mom has done…. we need to go back to this sort of thing instead of pussy footing around because of these so called experts saying you can’t do this you can’t do that. They need to be taught at an early age what respect & punishment actually is. This currant generation does not have that at all & i lay the blame squarely at the feet of the so called do-gooders. Even when competing in sport the child now gets an award & this gives them nothing much to strive for, 1st 2nd & 3rd are all that should be given out & as far as schooling goes you need to be a mathematician to work out if a child has passed or not (go back to A,B,C,D,E & F) & if they don’t pass the grade keep them there for another year, we have got way to soft on lots of things & it need to change. I don’t hit my kids but i do hit them where it hurts most & that is loosing access to the internet (except for school work) & TV becomes free to air only, NO YouTube & they hate that

  • I think it was a little extreme mainly with the clothes. My 13 yr old daughter has been stripped of all her electronics for the entire of this month due to disobeying us and not coming home on the bus after school. She has learnt her lesson and knows we mean business if she ever pulls a stunt like that again

  • Well it certainly is extreme to post this on facebook.
Personally I don’t believe so much in this way of disciplining, although it’s good to be firm and consequent, the effect of explaining, modeling and talking about things in a safe and open way seems more effective.

  • I do think it is extreme and surely publicly naming and shaming is also a form of bullying! There are better ways to educate and teach a child without resorting to this measure.

  • My goodness why why why does every thing go on darn facebook. I’m OK with the punishment but to have this spread around the globe Hell NO. This will stay and stick and haunt this child forever.
