Here are the top exercises to avoid when pregnant:

  1. Contact sports or activities where you are more likely to fall over.
  2. Be careful lifting any weights over your head, especially if you tend to get light headed or dizzy.
  3. After about 14 weeks, it is not recommended to do any exercises on your back.  The weight of the baby can slow the return of blood to your heart.
  4. Abdominal exercises – crunches, sit ups etc can be ineffective during pregnancy and may make the condition known as diastasis recti abdominis (a painless splitting of the abdominal muscle at the midline) worse.
  5. I would also minimise any high impact/jumping exercises. Instead keep them low impact!

  • I believe its also advisable to stay away from sauna’s and spa’s and this could possibly bring on a miscarriage.

  • Common sense is the key at any time with exercise, but especially when pregnant. If you think it might not be wise, then it probably isn’t. Or as my Nanna used to say “when in doubt, don’t”.
