You might not know Lucy Hale.

She’s a young, gorgeous actress and being from Memphis, Tennessee, she’s also just released a country-music album that she spent 2 and a half years working on.

She also has a cool 3.85 million Twitter followers and 4.4 million on Instagram. 4.4 million!!

At 25, she’s played lead roles in two popular cable shows – Privileged and Pretty Little Liars. And in an interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, she points out that it’s shows like these that are to blame for unrealistic standards of beauty.

Pretty Little Liars “is about how we look too. That’s terrifying sometimes because you’re breaking out or you feel gross and you still have to be in front of the camera.”

If you have daughters on social media, you might want to share this part with them: “We’ll post pictures on Instagram and people will be like, ‘Y’all are so flawless,'” says Lucy.

“Little do they know it’s fake hair, fake eyelashes, and a good filter. Little girls see that and think they have to be like that.”

She was also one of the many young actresses who auditioned for the lead role of Fifty Shades of Grey. And it wasn’t her favourite experience.

“That audition was so uncomfortable! It’s exactly what you thought it would be: a big monologue but very, very sexual,” she said. “There were some things that I was so embarrassed to be reading out loud, but it’s one of those things where you have to commit wholeheartedly or you’re going to make a fool of yourself.”

Do you always believe photos you see on Instagram or Facebook? How will you help your kids understand what’s real and what’s important?

  • Good point. That’s the reason it’s difficult to see any no-make-up photos. Once you see it, you realize that the reality is.

  • My favourite photos are always ‘natural’ ones.

  • I still enjoy photos; regardless.

  • Social media is bad for the unreal expectation that girls then place in themselves. Everything is so choreographed before it is uploaded to try and look natural. They are just maintaining their image!

  • everybody phototshops themselves because they don’t except flaws in hollywood and they think that our lives revolve around their beauty or something lol! it is very unrealistic for normal people who don’t have the personal trainers or money to spend on our outward appearance

    • also gotta love lucy hale. love her in pretty little liars

  • No, I don’t believe them, and I hope when my girls are older that they aren’t influenced by the artificial and heavily photoshopped images.

  • It’s sad that stars are photoshop there photos on social media

  • The answer to your question is no I don’t believe all the photos I see or even the info I read, look how many people were fooled just recently by the photos of the ancient ruins being found in the Australian Desert – hoax!

  • These days I assume everything is photoshopped.

  • photo shop is so false

  • I rarely ever believe photos that I see on media of any type, be it print, t.v. or the internet. Photo-shopping is rife, and it’s rare to see an “un-touched” photo of a celebrity. I taught my kids that beauty on the outside doesn’t equal beauty on the inside. Pretty wrapping paper can cover an empty box, and a peach can look perfect on the outside but be rotten to the core. It’s the sort of person you are that’s important, not how you look.

  • young people are very image conscious and are aware that makeup and clever lighting can cover a myriad of faults.

  • I think they should keep photos natural

  • I don’t I only where make up when going out an my kids know the difference.. But in saying that it’s not good for our kids growing up thinking that it’s there normal everyday look when it’s not.. I’d like to see more actress with no makeup on to prove to the kids it’s ok to not wear it all the time.,

  • Im a Mum of 3 daughters and I have made them very aware of how they make sure these females look a million dollars and its all smoke and mirrors.
Sometime when you get the opportunity to meet a female celeb in person its a bit of a shock that they dont look as flawless in person as they appear in the magazines.
