Moana is one of my kids’ most watched movies, behind Frozen, of course. So we were thrilled to hear the official confirmation that Moana 2 is on its way.

The details of the Moana sequel have unfortunately been a bit sketchy but it took 6 years for the Frozen sequel to hit the big screen so we can expect a bit of a wait for Moana 2.

The Moana 2 big news was confirmed on the Moana Instagram page and insiders believe that the movie is less than 4 years away. Undoubtedly this year’s COVID-19 pandemic would have affected the timeline of the new movie so it may be even longer in production.

The Stars Will Be Back In Moana 2

But the good news is that both Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be returning in Moana 2 in their roles as Moana and Maui. Songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda is also said to have met with Disney about being involved in the sequel of the film.

The original Moana movie was released by Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2016 and earned $650 Million worldwide. The movie ended with the Polynesian princess Moana returning home following her epic adventure acting as Wayfinder. It is expected that Moana 2 will pick the story up from where it left off and feature the return of demigod Maui.

  • Me and my kids absolutely love Moana !

  • I found the first one quite boring but my kids would love it

  • Love that they are bringing back the voices. And that they aren’t going budget on the animation like some sequels do. This is one movie we’ll be looking forward to!

  • Love Moana. Looking forward to see where they take the story. Hoping Tamatoa reappears!

  • Definetly can’t wait for this.

  • I read about the sequel and told my daughter about this and she can’t wait to watch it, I hope they do it ASAP.

  • I think big movie releases are quite a long way away.

  • My family would love to see Moana 2. I think it will be a few years away yet though.

  • I definitely want to see it. At the movies, or at home. I don’t mind.
