This ingenious hack inspired an interior designer to make over her mother’s entire kitchen!

Bel Jones is an interior designer who discovered a hack that will have you planning your kitchen renovation for around $150. For houses built in the 1970s, mustard coloured kitchens with wooden cupboards were the norm, and Bel’s mother’s house was no exception.

Chance To Make A Change

After seeing the increasing popularity of Kmart’s $3 marble adhesive roll, Bel took the opportunity while her mother was away to make a lasting change The Daily Mail reports. She set about covering all the work surfaces with the contact, painting the tiled floors in a more modern black and sanding back the outdated wooden cupboards. The entire project cost just $150 and a little elbow grease from Bel. “Thank you to the ladies who posted about the hack! What an amazing difference it makes!” she said.

Never Meant To Be Permanent

Bel says the project was never meant to be permanent, with a full kitchen renovation planned for next year. “We are re-doing the whole kitchen early next year so the contact will suit for a temporary fix.” Even though it was only intended to be a temporary solution, Bel says the kitchen is still in good condition, with the paint on the floor yet to scratch and the countertops requiring only a wipe of a wet cloth to keep clean.

Bel’s mother was thrilled with the results saying, “It was unbelievable, the biggest surprise! I’m still in shock every time I walk into the kitchen. You’re amazing Bell!”

We have to say we agree with that – what an incredible transformation for only a fraction of the cost of most renos. Now to get to Kmart and pick up some of that miracle contact…

  • It does look fab however when I read this is not a permanent solution I did wonder if house flippers or house sellers use this to update the kitchen without letter the buyers know.
