A court in the UAE jailed a woman for three months for looking through her husband’s phone without his knowledge.

The woman’s husband filed a lawsuit against her, accusing her of violating his privacy, and she was put on trial.

She was found guilty.

In his statement made against her, the man said his wife went through his phone and copied all the data to another device in order to search through the information at a later date, shares Daily Mail.

The husband made the complaint after his wife was said to have scrolled through his phone contents while he was asleep.

She was said to have then transferred pictures and chats to her phone to show her siblings.

She claimed her husband had given her his password and allowed her to look at his phone since she had caught him chatting with other women before.

The UAE’s has strict cybercrime laws, especially when it comes to protecting the privacy of individuals online. Even in married couples it is still an offence for either husband or wife to search each other’s phone, even if one suspects their spouse of cheating.

Sounds like he had something to hide!

Do you think it is OK to check your partner’s phone?

  • I have on occasion checked hubby’s phone. Not without his knowledge though. We have no reason to go to these lengths. Who would even think about taking their partner to court fir this? I wonder what he had to hide

  • It’s rather sad it got this far and that it needed to clog the law system. Whilst it’s a breech of privacy it should have been a dispute between husband and wife

  • What is the guy trying to hide? It has become public knowledge so a lot of people will be asking the same question. I know of plenty people who use each other’s computers. Some have their computers set up in such a way as remember password and you don’t have to type it in.

  • I think he must have had something to hide to react the way he did. Why did he give her the password to his phone in the first place. It’s a stupid law in the first place and why jail her when there are people who have done worse and just get a fine or community service.

  • I wonder what she found? Silly law.

  • Sounds like it more because she copied his data rather than just looking through his phone?

  • I wonder what she found?!

  • Erm, she wouldn’t have stood a chance in the UAE given that women’s rights are not equal to mens.

  • I think that everyone deserves privacy and in a marriage you should be able to trust each other or else why stay married.

  • Although it sounds maybe he had something to hide, I wouldn’t think about going through my husbands phone ! And the fact he then files a lawsuit against her, says a lot about how this couple relates to eachother. Yes it’s UAE, but still.

  • Hmmmm interesting. Something to hide I think! Curious about the process. So he caught her and then reported her to the authorities??!! I’ve maybe checked hubby’s phone once but it was to look at something he’d mentioned to me previously. I’ve never really felt the need otherwise. I’m a bit of an open book.

  • Oh wow send your wife to jail all because she looked at your phone obviously he had something to hide..
I didn’t realize there was a law that you cant go looking into your partners phone. It’s a bit wrong.

  • Poor woman. I hope she leaves him. What sort of man sends his wife to jail so he can keep being a rat?

  • I agree there are some trust issues here but that said obviously he had something to hide, he’d done it in the past and a leopard never changes it’s spots. I believe he put her in jail to prevent his dirty little secret from being uncovered. In this situation it’s a really unfair law because you can hire a private investigator to follow them but you can’t look in their phone!!!
