Female hunting enthusiasts are stirring up controversy by boasting about the spoils of their expeditions on social media and even taking their kids along.

Posting under the hashtag #realgirlshunt, they can be seen posing in camouflage gear alongside creatures such as alligators, deer and warthogs.

Many proud hunter mums are determined to get their children in on the act from an early age, taking them along to stalk bears and shoot turkeys, reports Daily Mail.

Proving that starting them young can lead to a lifelong passion, keen huntress Emily Perreira shared a photo of herself alongside a slaughtered goat, saying: ‘Throwback to when it all started.’   ‘Hunting season is my favourite season.’

Shannon Sullivan and her partner took their six-month-old son along for opening weekend of hunting season and posed with him alongside a large alligator they caught, propping his jaws open for effect.

Amanda_lowrey has also taken her baby daughter Layney along on her first hunt and ended up with a deer.

‘Honestly didn’t expect to get anything, Layney was in a great mood but she was talking up a storm,’ she said. ‘Very glad to have some meat in the freezer.’

Eleven-year-old Nolan Hens managed a bigger catch, shooting his first bear on Vancouver Island, alongside his mother.

The trend for showing off hunting spoils online comes as 12-year-old Aryanna Gourdin, from Utah sparked outrage with gruesome pictures of her standing triumphantly over a giraffe she shot dead in Africa.

She has vowed to ‘never stop hunting’ despite a torrent of abuse after she gloated of her kills on safari on Facebook.

A NZ dad recently sparked outrage when he cheered on his daughter as she shot dead her first deer and took a bite out of its “warm, quivering heart”. He says he doesn’t care what other people think.

Chloe told Stuff.co.nz that she had seen her uncle take a bite from a deer heart.

“I saw my uncle bite the heart so I thought I might bite it too,” she said.

“It tasted quite nice.”

  • If they kill them for meat to eat I can understand the logic of that, but to kill them just for the fun of them is cruel and unnecessary. Animals are sometimes injured but not killed outright, left to suffer for who knows how long.

  • why is it ok for most people (excluding vegetarians) to look at meat in the freezer of the supermarket and see it as food but if a woman or even a man these days kill their own food people are upset by it? My husband worked in a slaughter yard for years and he and I both hunt and kill our own animals on our farm. Let me tell you right now hunting like this is much more humane than what happens to your shop shelf meat. these animals usually dont know whats happening till the last minute, if at all. animals at the slaughter yard are kept sometimes for days there listening to and smelling the deaths of the other animals, and also when they get close to their own death they can see their fellow animals being killed in front of them. I am sorry if I offend anyone by saying this but it is ignorant to make nasty comments about these women if you eat meat but dont hunt.

  • It seems so wrong like why would you want to teach your children that this is alright

  • Seriously what is wrong with people?? If you are going to eat what you kill then ok. But to kill something just to say “Look at me I killed this”…then honestly you need to get help.

  • Trophy hunting is everything that is wrong with the world and the essence of human arrogance. Teaching kids that is brainwashing, it’s sick and I really don’t understand it. The human race just can’t get that everything does not belong to us! We share this planet and it’s resources & we should give back to it…ugh! This makes me so sad and frustrated.

  • Personally I’m not into hunting. I understand that some people hunt to provide food for their family but those that hunt for the kill is barbaric. Where we have so many endangered species now I feel killing/hunting should be stopped and taking children with you I would never endorse.

  • How awful !! I would never think about doing that.
Personally I don’t agree with hurting or killing animals, not for eating and not for the so called fun.
