Hello!

In response to the Corona-craziness, Woolworths has halted all Click and Collect orders across Australia, as well as cancelling some home delivery services.

I usually do my Woolworths delivery order one day in advance. But last night, all the delivery slots were sold out for a week ahead. And the option to click and collect was not available at all.

The supermarket giant is unable to keep up with the demand and shelves in many stores are decimated as shoppers shop in fear of being unable to leave their house.

No Pickup Option

Woolworths has said that due to lack of stock, all click and collect services will be suspended.

In addition, delivery services in some areas of Victoria have also been temporarily stopped after Premier Daniel Andrews declared a state of emergency earlier today. However, those living in most of the metro areas within Melbourne will still be serviced by home delivery.

Home Delivery Update

Home delivery is still available for the rest of the country, but customers should expect delays and is no longer offering the option to pay extra for a two-hour delivery slot.

Quarantined?

In addition, customers can indicate in their online order whether they are self-quarantined, in which case the groceries will be left at their front door to order direct interaction.

Closing Early

The supermarket has also just announced that all stores across the country will close at 8pm from Tuesday so staff can re-stock shelves and clean the premises.

Dedicated Shopping Hour

This follows earlier news that Woolworths would institute special shopping times reserved exclusively for the elderly and people with disabilities. They have said that the dedicated shopping hour would be between 7am and 8am daily. “The move has been prompted by the unprecedented demand in supermarkets over the past week, which has seen many elderly and vulnerable people in the community missing out on vital items they may need when they shop,” Woolworths said in a statement.

Shoppers must have a government-issued seniors or disability card to be granted early access.

What About Coles?

Coles is implementing massive changes too. They have announced all Coles stores will close early from 8pm from Wednesday for re-stock and cleansing.

They will also only allow the elderly and vulnerable into stores between 7am and 8am each day.

Coles has suspended nationwide home deliveries except for the most vulnerable customers so it can focus on keeping stores stocked. In addition, the company is hiring 5,000 new workers, including delivery drivers, to keep up with the demand.

  • What a totally crazy time this was.

  • Found it so hard to cope in the early days of restrictions and the on-line deliveries just weren’t good enough for the older community. I just ended up going shopping as usual – but this week noticed the laxity of checking how many people in the supermarket, no checking on how many in the aisles, no proper social distancing – think this virus will start to go up very soon.

  • I am so glad Woolworths deliveries and click and collect services are back up and running. As a regular user, it was difficult when the services ceased and even more difficult when I tried to order for my immuno-compromised Dad

  • Getting items is improving slowly. The supermarkets have been doing a great job

  • Yeah but it’s still crazy. I don’t understand why people are stock piling?

  • I haven’t done a big grocery shop in four weeks, I’ve just been popping to our local shop when I need something. Today I’m off to do a big grocery shop, first time since all this crazy took off……wish me luck

  • It’s annoying how people are being selfish and are going overboard with supplies. As I only want to shop at one store and only once a week, I’ve had to go elsewhere to find stuff and sometimes go countless times a week just to get essentials.

  • My wish would be that people stop being selfish. Stop hoarding and just be kind. We are ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.

  • who is classed as most vulnerable? I have an autoimmune disorder, chronic renal failure and IBS. Is that me?

  • If people could stop being idiots that would be great

  • Apart from the fact that many things are not on the shelf… no! I could live out of my pantry and freezer for a month. We could just learn to be creative with what we cook. There’s plenty of fresh fruit and veg in the supermarkets. Maybe people need to ditch the crap and go fresh. Wow, what a concept. Horrified by the selfish behaviour and panic buying of people. Just ridiculous and horrible.

    • When everything else is gone they WILL strip the shelves of fresh food. Last time at Coles, the potato and apple shelves were almost totally empty.

  • We went to Woolies last night and couldn’t get a lot of our usual groceries because the shelves were completely bare of things like cheese blocks, rice, pasta, toilet paper of course and milk. It was crazy because the week before there were no issues at all at my regular store.

  • I dont order on line or do pick up. I like to shop myself but there isnt alot on the shelves at the moment

  • I only shop once a month so I’m usually very low on products. I normally do a click and collect order as I travel for 2 hours to do a shop. My last shop I just bought what I would normally buy. Hopefully stores will be restocked before I need to do another shop. I’m hoping I’ll be able to do a click and collect again. I am unable to walk around the shop myself as I have a disability but don’t have a card because Centrelink say I’m not eligible. If people just did a normal shop then things would be able to carry on as normal.

  • I have not been stocking up , just shopping for my weekly essentials – now there is hardly anything on the shelves …. went today and there was no pasta, tinned food, flour, frozen meals or bread. Some people are stripping the shelves bare without consideration for others. If everyone just bought what they needed, we wouldn’t have these shortages and evryone would get what they needed.
