Weaving has been around for an eternity- I remember doing it with friends when I was little.

It’s such a great craft for kids as it’s simple, fun and inexpensive. The best bit is that you can use so many types of materials such as cardboard, newspaper, magazines, wool and generally any leftover scraps of paper you have!

Given that it’s nearly Easter, we thought woven easter eggs would be fun to make- and they look so pretty framed too!

Materials

  • Strips of cardboard, pattered/coloured paper, wool – basically any materials you can get your hands on!
  • A4 sheet of paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors and/or utility knife
  • Glue

Method

1. Draw the outline of an egg onto an A4 sheet of paper, don’t make it too small.

2. We used a utility knife to cut the lines across the egg, approximately 1cm apart and taking it close to the sides of the egg outline. If you don’t have a utility knife then you can gently fold the paper and use scissors to cut across the egg.

3. Cut strips of paper or cardboard slightly longer than the egg, approximately 1cm wide.

4. Start in the middle and weave each strip over and under until you reach the end. Alternate each strip by starting on top or underneath the paper so you get the pattern appearing.

5. Once all the strips have been woven, cut out around the egg whilst removing all the loose ends of paper.

6. Glue down the ends of each paper strip to secure.

Frame, hang or stick your colourful egg somewhere special to make the house look festive and bright!
