A 12-year-old boy was allegedly abducted and held for ransom over his father’s $4 million dollar gambling debts.
Police allege that the boy was dragged into a car on the Gold Coast on Friday and was found safe on Saturday afternoon 236km away in Grafton, New South Wales.
It is understood that he was found lashed to a headrest by his neck in the backseat, reports Daily Mail.
He was treated at the hospital after allegedly receiving cuts consistent with having been bound.
The 53-year-old man arrested over the alleged kidnapping will be charged with kidnapping for ransom once he is extradited back to Queensland, police said.
Police will allege the kidnapping was part of an extortion attempt to settle a gambling debt racked up by the boy’s father.
‘Both parties were known to each other and there were financial issues involved in the lead up to the abduction of the child,’ police said.
We are so glad the young man was found pretty quickly. His poor mum!
