An eight-year-old girl tried to take her own life on Friday after suffering years of bullying.

Her mother, Richelle, revealed the devastating conversation she had with her daughter before taking the primary school student to the emergency room.

“She came to us stating that she wanted to end her own life due to the bullies always winning,” she said.

Richelle, a survivor of breast cancer, revealed she was the reason for her daughter’s bullying after fellow students poked fun of her mother’s double mastectomy and resulting hair loss from chemotherapy.

The young girl, who lives in Logan, Queensland, told her mother she wanted to end her own life because ‘the bullies always won’, Yahoo!7 reported.

Richelle explained the bullying started because of her own double mastectomy and the physical effects chemotherapy was having on her.

‘After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016, one girl started because I was suffering from breast cancer,’ she said.

‘She told my daughter that her mum wasn’t a woman because she didn’t have hair or breasts and that she would turn out the same as me.’

Richelle’s daughter was born with a cleft lip and a deformity to one eye which she says prompted other children to comment on her appearance her whole life.

“I feel like I’ve failed my daughter, its affected our family so much.”

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has said she will be doing everything she can to tackle bullying and in particular cyberbullying.

“I firmly believe that we are just skimming the ocean of a big issue, where bullying and harassment is now following young children into the family home,” Palaszczuk told reporters on Sunday.

  • I would like to know whether the parents of the bullies are ever called by the school when the staff at school know who the bully/ies are. I know a Mum who contacted the school when she found out her young daughter was being bullied. She was told it was her daughter doing the bullying. She wanted to know why she wasn’t contacted so she could talk to her daughter, get to the bottom of the reason and tell her it was wrong to do that and that she was not to do it again. She is suspcious the school were trying to wangle their way out of it as the staff immediately changed the subject. Apparently there has been a few complaints about the child the Mum tried to talk to the staff about.

  • This breaks my heart ! People can be so horrible and heartless. Sometimes my heart aches for those who suffer and I cry. I hope and pray that this will end and that parents & schools take compassion, doing the right thing, empathy and social life skills as most important in our lives !

  • Children can be so heartless and thoughtless …. as if this family doesn’t have enough to contend with, making comments like this against the poor mum who is already battling is just downright deplorable!

  • This poor family. As if going through the struggles that they have had to endure isn’t enough. Bullying is getting worse and I think bullies need to be held accountable more. I hope his family gets the help they need. Thoughts with them xx

  • I really believe the bullies should be made to sit with their victims and listed to the other person’s experience at being bullied, kind of like listening to a victim’s impact statement.

  • Terrible! At 8 years having such sad thoughts!! I would have already taken her out of school. And if the school was aware of the bullying, they should have done something about it. The parents of the bullies should have been called in, because it’s outrageous what they said!!

  • How is the school letting these girls get away with this? They should be a part of this family’s support system, not ignoring them and making things even harder.
