Jessica Wayman from Indiana has gone viral after sharing a very important warning to parents about using change tables in public areas.

Sharing on Facebook, Jessica wrote, “PSA: Before putting your babies anywhere near these things, ALWAYS wipe them down first. Even if you are in a hurry, even if you have a blanket to lay down.

“See the black marks? Those are from burnt spoons. Addicts use these as tables while they shoot up. There could be residue from heroin/meth whatever, and other harmful bodily fluids. If someone doesn’t care about themselves, I can promise you, they aren’t thinking about your kids. Be cautious!”

“SHARE so this can reach as many parents/guardians/babysitters as possible. It could mean the difference between life or death/serious life threatening injury, for a lot of innocent children & unsuspecting parents.

Jessica later edited her post to add, ” I never expected this to get so much attention, but since it is, to clarify some of the things I’m seeing being questioned, this is in reference to changing stations in single person bathrooms & in handicapped stalls, yes this is VERY REAL.

“I am a recovering addict myself, which is why I made this post in the first place, to warn all the unsuspecting parents who would never think something like this when looking at a changing table. Along with people using them as tables while they shoot up, they are also OFTEN used by addicts to bust drugs out and crush them up upon. So again, be cautious.”

Jessica’s post has received over 41,000 shares.

Definitely worth a share to warn other unsuspecting parents!

  • Good of this young lady to reveal what she is aware of at possible risk to herself as a recovering addict. I would always wipe down an area before putting my child upon it, but hands do sometimes stray where you don’t want them to go.

  • I always either wiped down the change table with a disinfectant wipe as well as placed a blanket over it to change my bubs

  • What is the world coming to. I’ve always used a towel or equivalent if I needed to change nappies when using public rest rooms. My reason was so it wasn’t a cold and hard surface for my boys, now I’m glad I always did.

  • What honestly is the world coming to, people seriously need to respect the change room other than that any room there’s a time and place just not in public area, people can be so desperate yet this will never stop so nothing will ever be done about this or change.

  • What a terrible thought. These weren’t around when my son was little, but it’s certainly info well worth sharing with others.

  • My husband saw this on Facebook and showed me.
I always wipe down before placing our baby mat down on it

  • I always carried disposable change mats with me, the germs they foster of fecies, saliva and now the risks drug users impose, it’s not worth it. The first thing my maternal child health nurse said to me once my eldest was born NEVER use a public change table without a disposable change mat on it first!

    • Yep! It just makes sense to have your own equipment which includes an abundant supply of wipes!!

  • I would never have thought of this either.

  • I would have never thought of that, I feel silly now, luckily I haven’t ever had to use them

  • Good to warn parents. I always carried a foldable plastic change mat in my bag.

  • Always have your own hygienic equipment for a variety of reasons.
