On first encounter, a narcissist may appear driven, charismatic, ambitious, disciplined and even fun. Narcissism is a trait each of us exhibits to a greater or lesser degree. It fuels the confidence to take risks, however, it may also fuel from pathological antagonism, characterised by grandiosity and attention-seeking.

In a society obsessed with wealth, status and appearance, the label narcissist is used everywhere. However, it is widely misused to describe anyone who offends us. The synonyms of narcissism include conceit, egoism, self-admiration, self-obsession and vanity as an obvious reoccurring theme.

Destruction focuses on the high-level narcissist, masters of charm and purveyors of magnetism. Meeting one of these individuals is a memorable experience, whether the encounter is positive, negative or somewhere in between. Narcissists beguile and persuade with a special brand of magic.

Destruction arms readers with the knowledge of how to recognise if they are in a relationship with a narcissist and how to determine those red flags immediately. Being oblivious and ignorant of the unconscious motives, psychopathology and causes of the narcissistic personality disorder is dangerous and damaging to those who naively interact with them.

This book supplies readers with the coping tactics to move forward, beyond self-detrimental tendencies and towards a positive future which they can choose friendships and relationships competently.

  • I married a narcissist. So charming, so perfect…. as long as everything is about him.

  • I have one as a mother and was married to one for 16years, they suck you in, charm the hell.out of you and then control you, even now divorced I am still controlled by a look, a comment or a text! There one of a kind and I’d love to read more!

  • not sure what a narcissist looks like or behaves i meet a lot of people from different backgrounds working in an op- shop

  • Yes my husband of 50 years

  • Yes, my boss left the company and was replaced by an extremely unethical immoral, and narcissistic person. They made it so my job became a nightmare and ended with me finishing up by my own choice. But in a way, I never wanted to leave the company.

  • Yes, I have been charmed by a narcissist. They somehow attract people around them by their intellectual behaviour. You would defenitly fall for them seeing their interest within themselves.

  • They are so charming aren’t they but I always end up giving up money, time and affection. Definitely not worth my time.

  • Yes, head over heals rose coloured glasses and all. The relationship holds both my most amazing memories from the beginning and confidence shattering memories in the end. Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy!

  • Absolutely! We have a few in the family and it’s so emotionally draining & tiring! I’m so intrigued about learning about them and understanding the signs and clues they give.

  • Yes. I get charmed by my wife every day.

  • Yes I have and it made me realise that I don’t have to be dominant to anybody

  • I was for 3 and a half years, left the relationship but I suffer PTSD, went to refuges and now have accommodation again. Would love to win and read this book and know what to look out for so I never go through this again.

  • I believe that my last relationship which lasted 5 years was with a manipulating narcissist. I believed that my ex was ambitious, smart, driven to succeed and a lot of fun. Then my ex became rather antagonistic and would emotionally attack me and belittle me.

  • My late husband is a complete charmer, social butterfy, overachiever and the ultimate “catch” in people’s eyes. For
17 years I lived in his Shadow constantly being told I was so “lucky” to have scored such a catch, and that I have to hold onto him. No one saw the put-downs, constant demands and emotional abuse I coped for 17years. Only now do I see this and that I’m better than this.

  • Like a slithery snake they manipulate their way into your life only to control you with every once of their being, making you know that you are worth nothing to them. Yep, I too have been snared by a narcissist.

  • Yes, my ex husband. The best day was in May 2014 when I finally had the guts to leave him with our sons, after 10 years of abuse, we ended up in a women’s refuge. Turns out, he is just like his mum.

  • Yes. My mum was a narcissist. I often tried to please her, it wasn’t until I saw my friends relationships with their mums and saw that I had the right to please myself and live my own life that I began moving away from my mum’s controlling narcissistic nature.

  • Never! Too clever and can see through their games…is that a narcistict thing to say?!

  • It’s hard not to be, there’s a lot in the world!

  • yes in my younger days
