Hello!

My 11 week throws up formula but not breast milk. Today we gave my baby a small about of formula and an hour later she couldn’t stop throwing up. We have previously given her formula once and she did the same thing but we just thought that it was because she drank it really quickly. Could she have an allergy to the type of formula we are using, has anyone had the same experience with there little one? Thank you

  • Try a different brand of formula.

  • It could just be a reaction to that formula. You could try a different brand or strength. She’s ok on breast milk, why not keep breast feeding?

  • Most formulas have lactose in them. Your baby may be lactose intolerant. Maybe speak to the pharmacist and get some suggestions if you have to persist with formula. If you have plenty of breastmilk are you able to express some and freeze it for future use. Bear in mind that it does have a use-by date.

  • I know this is an old question but I had identical twins, one projectile vomited from birth, we used a beach towel as a feeder!! he had pyloric stenosis, once this was fixed at 6 weeks he thrived but at 4 months started vomiting all the time, took him to paediatricians, changed formulas, then at 6.5mnths we had to travel for my husbands work, and I was concerned re making formula etc, so I put them on cows milk with a vitamin supplement, I know very naughty, after a few days it occurred to me that he was not vomiting at all, he was thriving, when we returned home, I took him back to the paediatrician who laughed at me, said he was doing fine, feed them both full cream milk, not skim, add the vitamin supplements and I was giving them some solids at this stage as well, he said many babies never had formulas as we know them and much is made of them but they do not suit all babies. So my mistake worked, so it is a matter of eliminating any problems then finding something that works. good luck

  • Seems like she does have some sort of allergy. you will have to try different formulas to get the right one … seek advice from GP or Pharmacist.

  • there are some good comments here

  • maybe take her to the doctors

  • I hope things have improved!

  • How is she going on formula now?

  • i hope all is well

  • you may need to experiment with different formulas and there are options between cows milk and goats milk. The one we had was organic and we never had a problem with Bellamys

  • What did you end up having to do?

  • Are you stopping breast milk?

  • Maybe the particular formula is disagreeing with her, maybe try another one?

  • Hope this situation has resolved and you were able to find answers

  • I would suggest speaking to your child health nurse.

  • Change formulas, sounds like it doesn’t agree with her.

  • could it be reflux? speak to your health nurse. it might just be a matter of trialing different formulas

  • might be lactose intolerant, try talking to the chemist about different formulas.

  • Breast milk is designed for your baby… It is unique to them. Formula is foreign and a lot harder for bubs to digest. If you can breast feed or express…
