Hello!

My oldest son is turning 13 soon, and we are planning a Disco Party for him!  But I would like to keep things interesting for the kids with some games, I don’t know of any that aren’t targeted at the younger kids and don’t want to bore the older kids with those!!  If anyone could give me some ideas of games for pre and early teens, I would be very grateful. Thank You!

  • Seeing as it’s a disco theme maybe some music games?

  • depends on the theme. a disco sounds great and they will love that for sure!

  • Ohhh tricky. 13 year olds are very hard to please. If you plan too much you will just be considered ‘uncool’. It would take some planning, but perhaps a pop-culture trivia competition based on recent movies and songs etc. This website will give you plenty of ideas, you might just need to rework the wording to make them suitable for 13yo’s. http://www.voyamagazine.com/2015/04/03/teen-pop-culture-quiz-update-45-april-2015/

  • Musical chairs is fun and not just for kids :-) what about a target shooting gaming (one with the foam bullets of course) and have a prize for the winner

  • gosh at 13 I would just do some sack races and running races as games

  • Maybe dance competition or singing competition.

  • This age love a scavenger hunt where they take photos of things found with their phone camera. In groups of 3 or 4. In say the area of the neighbourhood block you live in. More points for difficulty. Review photos(funny) and highest scoring team win a small prize.

  • musical statues, dancing competitions at the disco. everyone loves pass the parcel and kick the soccer ball to music and who ever has it when music stops is out.

  • i really think the party would be great with all the good ideas :)

  • I think you have some great ideas posted by other members, so much to choose from.

  • Ohh fun!!!!! I would have a theme and the best dressed wins a prize…..then you could have a Limbo comp, a conga line, a Macarena comp, Gangnam style dance off…..You could have a boys Vs Girls dance off prizes for best moves. So many different ideas! Sounds like a great time! x

  • A good old fashioned game of twister would be fun!

  • Maybe a lucky spot on the dance floor or a limbo competition. CD as a prize or even itune vouchers for best dancer or craziest hat.

  • Difficult age for parties. Make sure they have lots of room and easy but yummy party food.

  • A Karaoke competition is always fun or a dance off.

  • al2ab and arcticwynta had great suggestions. They are very active but still need to be safe. Could you get the paint splat game that shoots out paint balls but nowhere near as dangerous as the real thing while they wear white tshirts and safety goggles. A dance off using those mats where you have to copy the steps in time or a game off with xbox/ps 3. Hire blow up sumo suits so they can wrestle or some other hire party water slides etc.

  • you can have a dance off for a prize as well as boys love popping balloons I have one 27 yrs old and still loves it so popped the balloons for a prize just remember they love to show off so plan around there vanity so to speak and they love to compete

  • From what i remember this is a very active age.
Your theme is disco, and many of the boys of this age group are into Urban style dancing, so using disco music set up a stage with a some musical instruments, and let them be their own dj (not sure what it’s called, but it’s where they get the records and make that whoop whoop sound in todays music), use this for the boys to set up their own disco club.

Have a pile of dress ups, and small mechanical bits, so they can make their own disco decorations (they will always go, thats girlie, but once they get into it they have so much fun)

Set up a competition where they have to show of their best moves to the beat, or work in groups and pairs and battle it out – this is fun for all

Also get a couple of the blow up bats, so they can swing and play off at each other in a safe way. Boys are full of energy.

Purchase some cheap plain t-shirts and get some dyes and set up a wet area for the boys to experiement and make their own ‘cool’ tee’s – you will be surprised !

anyway hoe these ideas help – have fun

  • It is so hard with boys, maybe a soccer ball and kick goals or basketball and quoits
