Hello!

I have a 14month old (and a 3.5year old) who share a room, and my 14 month old doesn’t sleep well/much etc. We have been to sleep school, but I can’t just let him cry etc. I don’t want to co-sleep for personal reasons, but I am at the end of my rope. My daughter was a bad sleeper as well. But seeing as they are sharing a room, I can’t deal with him waking every 3 – 4 hours. I’m not feeding him over night, he just sits and cries and screams for hours. It takes me hours to get him to nap during the day as well. he just fights it.

  • If you’ve been to sleep school and won’t follow suggestions from professionals, I doubt there’s anything to help you

  • Hi there mums. thanks for all your help. Update for those questions. He has a huge FOMO. so prams and movement doesn’t work…… (it worked with my first but not with him) Its getting easier…. just really gotta make sure he has naps during the day.

  • Hi mumma my 14 month old is not a good sleeper too and been to sleep school i get him in a pram for a walk and he naps in the pram and at night we co sleep i kind of gave up slp training him

  • My daughter is 14 months old and has only just started waking every 2-3 hours every night. Previously it was after every single sleep cycle. So we have gone from waking 7-10 times a night to waking 3-4 most nights. I know how crazy sleep deprivation is as I’ve lived it her entire life. The thing that started to improve her sleep for us was getting on top of allergies.

She is a bubble baby and has manyany allergies and I was accidentally feeding her soy in commercial bread which was causing her discomfort and digestive stress. And she was doing alot of what your little one is by the sounds of it. Is there a chance your bub has allergies? Or is getting even a small amount of an allergen you know he’s allergic too?

Have your tried a comfort toy? I know lots of mums that swear by it. Does he use a dummy? Or white noise?

You could try a essential oil diffuser with a “sleep” blend. I find this doesn’t help her sleep but will keep her calmer when she is awake.

If you haven’t seen a doctor it could be worth seeing one or two. I had one doctor tell me to just let my daughter cry it out and I too just can’t do it. So I saw another doctor who gave some actual advice around her allergies.

I hope you find what works for you guys. I know it’s a hard place to be in. I feel for you ❤️

  • I have noticed that all of ours have tended to move around their sleep and have discovered that the mattress is often hot in the spot they were laying on. You could try offering water in a leak proof container. Would he find it in his cot if he woke up more than once?? One of ours was waking at exactly the same time at night regardless of the time we put him down for the night. In desperation we took him to the Dr. who did some tests then came to the conclusion that his “body clock” was out of whack. Dr. ordered special drops to give him for a certain length time. However, as soon as he showed signs of sleeping until about 6.00pm we weaned him off them. Maybe speak to your Pharmacist. They study some medical etc. at Uni – but not as long as Drs. do.

  • I wonder whether he needs his own space for sleeping? Maybe silence would help? Sorry you are having such a rough time xx

  • Aw bless you, that sounds draining ! Do you have any idea what unsettles him ? When he sits and screams for hours he could be scared / separation anxiety. I aassume he still in the cot ? I would place his cot temporary in your bedroom beside your bed so he can see you, it might be enough to settle him. In the meantime I would absolutely buy some good earplugs for yourself. Sleep is important to keep your sanity & health

  • I wish I could give advice because this sounds horrible..

Is he comfortable? Dressed warm enough? My daughter used to wake for a short period of time because she was cold and never sleeps with her blanket on. My daughter is almost 16 months old and luckily she sleeps through and has 2 naps a day anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hours each nap.

I hope someone can help you out and you can get to the bottom of it

  • It is difficult and my little one is 13 months and has did this for the past week. He used to be able to nap twice a day almost an hr each nap then wake up twice at night however now he catnaps 30 minutes and wake up every 3 to 4 hrs as well. Im guessing he might be experiencing regression and teething?
