Hello!

My sons 1st birthday is coming up in 3 weeks and going with a hot wheels / cars theme. But have no clue on what food to do that will suite everyone. Also what do other mums suggest on present ideas for their 1year old ?

  • I would probably go with the traditional party pies and sausage rolls and maybe a sandwich platter and a fruit platter. Gifts, books are great or something they can push along as probably just walking or close to it

  • Sorry my answer was aimed at things to do at party

  • Kmart has large Lego type blocks ( too big to fit in mouths)

  • lots of videos for him to watch back in the future

  • Food – fruit kebabs, fruit pieces, sandwiches, mini cupcakes, popcorn
Gifts – books, sandpit sets, if bub is just walking or not yet a walker

  • Fruit kebabs are popular with adults and kiddies. Serve with a sweet dip like

Finger food is easy for everyone, and if you don’t want to make it yourself, there’s a huge range that you can get in the frozen section at the supermarket (Coles have some very reasonably priced “home-brand” in a variety of flavours).

Books are excellent presents for little ones, and have an activity area to keep kiddies occupied during the celebration. Don’t forget to take lots of photos either.

  • keep it simple and have a few areas where they can play. bubbles are fun with this age too.

  • For present ideas, I always tell people that if it doubt they should buy something they think is a little too advanced for the kid, as they can grow into it. Books are a classic. For a one year old, Fisher Price toys, especially the Little People ones, interest them for years and can be built on with further sets that mesh. Play Doh is good too.

  • At that age lots of finger foods would be good and in small sizes so there is not too much waste 🙂 mini cupcakes hotdogs made with cocktail franks and bake at home dinner rolls, little sandwiches cut into fun shapes with cookie cutters (maybe car shaped?) some fruit, like melon can also be cut with cookie cutters, at 1 yr I would go with “practical” gifts limit to a couple of toys and top up with some clothes and winter pjs maybe 🙂

  • What a great birthday, they have no idea that all the fuss is for them. The food is usually for the adults , if the other little guests are the same age. little hot dogs , fresh fruit, and sandwiches are always favourites , even with the adults. I think for a 1st birthday a money box with what ever suits your budget is great, as each birthday you can add a little more cash, that way mum can buy something that the little one really needs when there is enough cash.

  • I would do the traditional kid foods, fairy bread, frankfuits, pies and sausage rolls, for adults I did chicken, salads, rolls, always worked for us, had lots of nibbles also. We gave both our boys for first birthday a 6vor 12v car or bike, they loved it.

  • Give him a big cardboard box with wrapping paper on it. This will most likely be his favorite, maybe some noisy rattles and a shape sorter. As for food who are you feeding, babies-toddlers or fancy parents? Cheese and dips, little boys, fairy bread, cupcakes.

  • Keep the theme running, and colour it ,ie do red,Red iced cupcakes, red lollies (do a little lolly bar), red straws red plates, bowls, napkins etc.. Just stick to a colour and go from there.

  • 1 year olds parties are usually more about the parents then the child. Ive been to a few where the child pretty much slept through the entire thing…lol
As far as food it depends what time of day you plan to have the party and how long you intend it to go on. If its morning or around Lunchtime then you can have sandwiches, party pies, sausage rolls, etc with things like sliced fruit
If its Dinner time and into the evening then Pizzas, chicken wings, cheese and meat platters with a fruit platter as well.

  • must be a great time for you. you can get countless food ideas on blogs, even here too. i just wanted to remind you to enjoy the moment. i can’t wait for my daughters first birthday, she’s seven months. also if u go to any store there are many toys with that age specifications. i would buy and activity center or activity table…Happy birthday in advance to him!

  • it will be more than likely kids and adults so cater for both finger food for kids and adults as well as sandwiches and also jelly cups. You buy things as a present that is age friendly they love things that makes noise we also had a hippo bubble blower

  • Finger foods and sweet treat are the ideal foods.

  • Is it a party for adults out for kids?? Usually 1 year old birthday parties are actually more for the adults because the kids don’t know what’s going on yet.. Buy him something he’d like playing with at home. I bought my son a toy with lots of buttons and sounds because he loves pressing things.. My friend went with a drum kit when her little one turned 1!

  • I would just do finger food or a bbq,
for finger foods like scrolls, fairy bread, sausage rolls, party pies, carrot sticks and dips, cup cakes.
as for a gift maybe a just a little teddy bear or walker i think at that age they don’t really need to much.

  • A sausage sizzle is always a great start with some bread and cakes
