Hello!

“My 15yo son needs to have 2 of his wisdom teeth taken out and the dentist has given him the choice of the chair or to have a general – any tips from mums who have been there done that? Is one better for recovery than the other?” Do you have any advice for wisdom teeth removal?

  • Which option did you end up choosing?

  • General is the less traumatic option from everyone that I know who has had their wisdom teeth out – and probably more so being a 15 year old.

  • Did you end up getting the wisdom teeth removed?

  • What did you end up choosing?

  • I would have a general – not good with pain.

  • I would say that general is the way to go.

  • Thanks for asking this, I’m taking my daughter to get hers removed.

  • thank you for posting this question

  • Go for the general! I had 1 wisdom tooth removed in the chair (or face a 3 year waiting list for general) & it was a really horrible experience. It took 1 1/2 hours & they crack your tooth in the gum before cutting it out.

  • Both my children have had all of their wisdom teeth taken out under General in one go and they were OK.As a child I hated the dentist so my teeth were abscesed before being removed in the chair.Very traumatic go for the General.

  • General is the only way to go … I had one of mine out in the chair. Never again 16 stitches later it was a mess wrapped around jaw bone… My face was a swollen mess … General is the way I wish I had gone I had the other three out under general no dramas no swelling it was heaps better.

  • General for sure. I had to have all four of mine removed about 2 years ago now and I went in for surgery for mine (had no choice if I wanted it done in one hit)

  • I would go for the general. Less pain

  • Great question, thanks for posting this! I was wondering aswell 🙂

  • I wish there were an easier and less painful way to have this done.

  • By now your son and you should have made the decision about his teeth. I agree with others here depends upon your pain threshold and if you think the roots will be long. Mine came out in the chair but had no choice.

  • General if you can then why not. less pain. And depending on the roots of some peoples wisdom teeth some end up needing a general anyway.

  • I got 2 out both of the top ones in a chair, I was fine. It depends on whether your son has long roots because if he’s like my husband they will have difficulty getting them out.

  • General get them all out at the same 🙂

  • I was 19 with a 6 month old & I had mine at the hospital with a general although I have very large teeth so the dentist advised this, I stayed in overnight but if I had a choice I think I’d opt for the chair, these decisions aren’t always easy, good luck with your son with whichever way you go
