I use the Mirena IUD and it has really reduced my periods. My friend has endo and she had it inserted and had to have it removed after a few days as it didn’t work for her. Most people I know that have had it have had a reduction in bleeding.

Implanon didn’t work for me however it has worked well for people I know. It’s hard to know until you give it a go.

Hi there, I feel your pain!! I’ve also had endo all my adult life and previously used the pill to manage (skip) periods and associated pain. The pill gave me terrible migraines though. I have now had a mirena for over 18 months and no longer get periods at all. It’s been a life changer but is obviously not for everyone. I would find a really good gyno to discuss your options. I have moderate endo, two surgeries to remove it so far (just turned 30) and tried Implanon. Unfortunately it didnt make any difference to my endo, and my emotions and hormones were so out of whack that I ended up getting removed only 4 months after having it. Good Luck, endo is just horrible.

I have had the implanon twice, first time it was fine for 12mths then didn’t stop bleeding for close to 2 months so went and had it removed. I currently have my second one in and it was great for the first 3 months and now I bleed for a month then don’t for a month and it seems to continuing like that. I’m sticking with it this time round to see if it will settle down but so far it hasn’t.

Have you spoken to an obstetrician/gynaecologist that specialise in Endometriosis? Or just a GP?
If only a GP, I would suggest seeing a specialist as there are other options/ medications to try that shut down your reproductive systems, which helps the monthly and mid cycle pain and then you can move to either surgery or alternative medicine/ drugs (depending on how you feel about having kids)

I had the implanon in for the year between my two pregnancies. It was the worst. I would never get it again. I stacked on weight, my moods were horrible and it impacted my mental health. Once I had it removed it was so obvious how bad it had made me, my husband told me I was like a new person.

If your body works well with Implanon, it is definitely a great option to help reduce the effects of Endo. Best part is that it can be removed when you like. The other option is an IUD, and that lasts up to five years.

The only advice I can give is that the Implanon can be removed at any time if you have adverse reactions but it usually does take a few months for your body to adjust to it. Your other option may be the Mirena IUD but doctors usually want you to try the Implanon first. You would be very unlikely to find any doctor willing to approve a hysterectomy before you are 40 or have a few children first. A friend of mine had two children, her husband had already had a vasectomy and they still made her wait 5 years until she was 40 before they would agree to it. I hope you find something that works for you soon.

I would search for a support group for women with endometrioses, I see there are many out there. Reading your question I was wondering if you see a normal GP for this or a Specialist ? Might be good to get a referral for a Specialist.
