Hello!

My daughter is in Year 7 and she came home upset last week after her teacher told the class that Santa, the Easter Bunny etc aren’t real. She was heartbroken and I was furious. Apparently, other kids in the class were visibly upset. According to my daughter, the teacher told the students, ‘Sorry if I ruined your childhoods.’ Not sure if it matters or not, but he doesn’t have any children.

So I called the school principal and reported the teacher, who assured me the teacher would be ‘dealt with’.
When my husband came home and I told him, he said I shouldn’t have reported the teacher and it was a ridiculous thing to get upset over.

I completely disagree – we kept this magic going for the past 12 years, and this teacher ruined it! So tell me, am I wrong for reporting the teacher?

  • The same thing happened to my son. I went and spoke to the teacher and told him it was not his place to do that. Many families have different beliefs and different ways of doing things. I was upset because I thought it was my job to explain it all. Some parents said I was stupid to keep it going, I don’t think I was, childhood gives way to adulthood far too quickly and until they have their own children, it is never the same.

  • Yes, reporting to the principal was too far. The poor man was probably being badgered about it all day long and snapped. If he had not done it, other high school kids would have.

  • Do you mean year 7 or 7 years old ? I can imagine you’re upset when your daughter is 7 yrs old, however at year 7 (which is secondary school) it would be a bit different in my opinion

  • You’re in the right. What a douche of a teacher.

  • Not wrong at all to report him. The teacher had no right as this is for families to deal with individually. Some believe a lot longer than others.
