I think you should write the invitation to the child’s name and then Mr/ Mrs Surname.

In the details portion of the invitation I would then make it clear again that a parent is required to attend. You might be able to do this by identifying if there is an entry cost to the pool i.e. Child’s Name entry is $x and Mr/ Mrs Surname adult entry cost is $x.

Start with who the party is for, where it will be, what its for, time, date and day.
Eg We would love to invite you to Grans 90th birthday celebration. To be held at 95 Matheson Rd, Gatwick, on Saturday the 2nd Sept 2010. Start time is 6pm. BYO alcohol, food supplied.

Mention something about safety of all children. And state parental supervision required at all times.

You must state on the invitation each child has to have a responsible parent present there are some good wording below from others.

if they are littlies, parents would be willing to stay anyway. So say “As there will not be a designated lifeguard for this party, it is encouraged that the parents stay to help supervise”

I find a lot of parents stay for birthdays generally now.

Maybe just be upfront ‘in the interest of safety mums and or dads are strongly encouraged to stay on & party with us’

This is something that all the parents have done in my daughters class…its not bitchy at all! Simple note on the bottom of the invitation: It is required that parents stay to supervise their child/ren. OR Parent supervision is required, thank you.

Just say something like “For safety reasons, each child must be accompanied by an adult throughout the party”.

Just state on there that it would be appreciated if parents could stay to supervise, I certainly wouldn’t be offended if this was put on an invitation that was given to my child.
