Hello!

I recently had a health scare resulting from high blood pressure, and am trying to reduce it without medication at this stage. I’d love to know any ways others have reduced their BP please.

  • I’m trying to reduce mine as well. Some great tips here that I’m going to try as well as reducing my stress levels

  • My mom has high blood pressure.

Basically she started with dietary changes. Avoiding salty foods, Chinese food with MSG and fatty food which is a big culprit for her.

She has herbal supplements. Garlic is known to reduce blood pressure issues and its good for the heart and arteries too.

Try researching on herbal teas too. =)

  • Obviously reduce salt as salt is an osmotic. Also reduce fat in your diet as that clogs up arteries. The Baker IDI website have a list of good and bad foods for cholesterol. The Heart Foundation should have a list to reduce salt.

  • Reduce the amount of wine etc and eat fresh fruit and veggies.

  • anything causing it? like stress or weight? maybe relaxation? gentle exercise and healthy eating

  • Banana’s! They regulate your blood pressure. If your having too much sodium then cut back on foods rich in that and slightly up your potassium rich foods.

  • You could try taking magnesium and see if you notice any difference in your blood pressure. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/06/11/magnesium-benefits-your-blood-pressure.aspx

  • Reduce salt intake in your dit, having enough sleep, reduce stress, have a glass fresh celery juice every day.All this will reduce your high blood pressure.

    Cheers

  • If you are overweight then work on losing weight and take daily exercise. A half hour walk is enough and will help to drop your blood pressure.
Im having the same problem but battling with major swelling as well :(

  • There is an anti hypertensive diet, that is considered to be one of the best diets in the world, not only for high blood pressure.Whilst you may need to google it. The diet consists partly of a high intake of fruit and veges, which many people saddly lack. ps exercise can be of benefit as well.

  • I had a similar problem and started yoga and swimming, it relaxes the muscles and eases the tension. I also cut all manufactured preservatives from my diet and ate seasonal. It worked for me and I no longer have the problem.h

  • Speak to your GP first but reducing you sodium intake DRAMATICALLY will lower blood pressure, my husband developed Meniere’s, (severe vertigo), treatment was to reduce his sodium to 600mg per day, which is very low, it also reduced his blood pressure so low he went off blood pressure medication first time in 15 years , also lost 17 kg over a year, we now don’t eat any processed food, aged 69 and 67, each weigh 62kg, and neither of us are on any medication, in great health all by reducing our salt intake.

  • Also; invest in some cookbooks that specialise in reducing blood pressure. The recipes will be helpful in changing/maintaining a healthy eating plan.

  • Eat blueberries

Blueberries contain a compound called anthocyanin, which acts as a potent antioxidant and offers protection against hypertension. Just one serving a week can reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure by 10 per cent.

    Vary your vegies

Choose a diet rich in foods with anthocyanin, such as beetroot and red capsicum.

    Brekkie boost

Add a handful of blueberries to your breakfast cereal, smoothie or yoghurt.

    Reduce sodium in your diet
Limit the amount of alcohol you drink
Avoid tobacco products and secondhand smoke
    Cut back on caffeine
    Indulge in dark chocolate

  • My husband was dignosed with mild to high blood pressure.
Dr suggested eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies
    less meat
    Exercising every 2nd day
Also listening to relaxation music 2-3 times a day
Before bed especially while going to sleep. As it helps calm the mind and gives you a nice relaxing peacefull sleep and helps blood predsure.
Also as a qualified massage theorist I recommend a light full body massage once a month.

  • I have a doctor who has reduced my fathers blood pressure and cholesterol by him drinking a glass of salt reduced tomato juice. That’s it. That is all my Dad did and in 5 months he is healthy. He also dropped a few kilo’s as well. Research this.. Weight and diet are the key. Best of luck.

  • Please be mindful that sometimes even with lifestyle changes blood pressure may remain high and medication may be required. Your GP can assist you with a lifestyle plan and advice. It is important to get it down as soon as possible. Good Luck.

  • Most definitely reduce your salt intake, check products packaging.. i have had high BP for many years and then my husband had kidney issues which meant reducing salt intake in food .. and my BP went down significantly.. so many products have a lot of salt
