Yes I agree with the cheap conditioner and a good fine lice comb. Apply the conditioner royally and divide the hair in section combing per section. Initially repeat daily.
Some other facts
* lice prefer clean hair where they can freely move around in
* hairspray and gel helps restrict their movement
* lice don’t like vinegar, tea tree and eucalyptus; make a defense spray of 4 parts water and 1 part vinegar and add some mls of tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil – use daily as a prevention

I second cheap conditioner and a lice comb (get it from the chemist). We usually put it in our hair for 20min. You may need to do it every few days or weekly for a few weeks in case any eggs were missed and hatch. It’ll stop them a free a few lice cycles! Good luck, it’s such a pain

Oil……and a fine tooth comb. Doesn’t really matter what type of oil, but the argan stuff is meant for hair, I am told.
Look for visible beasties and exterminate. Then comb oil (liberal quantity) through hair with proprietary fine toothed comb, designed to either crack the shell of eggs, or slide them off the hair shaft. Be through in your approach – it will reward you handsomely later! Wash, rinse, repeat.

Repeat for a couple of days to ensure you have broken all eggs to avoid a repeat of the life cycle.

The more important part is the maintenance – after every hair wash comb a small quantity of oil through the comb until a comb passes easily through. This will prevent any attempt of beasties laying eggs being successful.

Only suffered one outbreak, and learned of this regime – thank goodness.

Olive oil might be a bit too much like salad dressing……..just a thought

I don’t have a tip to get rid of them but to prevent them don’t wash their hair often at all and tie long hair up in a bun when you hear of head lice going around.

put the cheap conditioner in her hair every night and comb in the morning then send her to school with hairspray or gel in her hair. and of course keep persisting!

if i have this problem ill have to try tea tree oil myself

I would talk to the school and see what is going on, I know our kids school the teacher does a daily check and if kids have lice then they are sent home

Apparently tea-tree is good. I was given a bottle of repellant back when my child was younger, it worked well. Can’t remember what it was called but it was in a green bottle & is sold in chemists.

My nan used to dilute methylated spirits and spray it in my hair, I could feel them running around dying and making my head itchy then Nan would give me a shower and wash my hair leave conditioner in for the night and comb it with a fine lice comb.

a small amount of tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle should work if not my mum once did this to my sister fly spray and glad wrapped it for a while it worked to also get ontop of the school so they know

My daughter was always doing the same thing..and don’t those little horrors SPREAD!! I use a spray on leave in conditioner as they cant hold onto the hair. I used it every morning and at first every afternoon she got home from school. She’s now in high school and she is doing it herself. Seems to work for us here anyhow. We use the Schwarzkopf Normal Balance Express Repair Leave in Conditioner. Its a 200ml cream bottle with green nozzle. Hope this helps

Any type of hair conditioner works.

Education department Queensland did an extensive study and found the best think was cheap white hair conditioner from cheap shop or supermarket cover head completely leave for as long as possible an hour is good with a shower cap on.. comb out as usual. Work great cheap and not full of chemicals, I used to do it to my kids and send them outside to play before washing it out. Made hair lovely and soft as well.

You need to be really persistant every second day with conditioner and nit comb method. I find this works the cheapest and the best. You can also add some tea tree oil to the conditioner as apparently lice do not like it. Hope this helps.

Make up a spray with water conditioner and a few drops of eucalyptus oil, use it everday and comb through b4 school etc, as well as go through the hair every 2nd day with conditioner or vegetable oil and a nit comb you will get them out as they hatch that way and break the cycle, also be sure to report it to the school as there may be others with them and if they r not being treated it is likely she will keep bringing them home

Hi I use tea tree oil mixed into conditioner with some water in a spray bottle and every morning and after school spray and comb her hair, the little beasts hate it plus it’s good for the hair

make sure you are persistent with a fine tooth comb!! I had them really bad as a kid and none of the store bought products seemed to do anything but I combed everyday for about a week and they were gone

Mix these products in a 100ml Spray Bottle
5 drops Geranium Essential Oil
5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
2 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
5 drops Lemongrass Essential Oil
Top the bottle up with Water.
(Do not spray in eye, it stings)
