Hello!

Every now and then we get ants traipsing through our kitchen. Hundreds of the little blighters. I don’t leave food out, all food containers are sealed, and the kitchen is clean, but still the ants come and take over. Does anyone know of a home-made natural remedy for getting rid of ants? I don’t want to use chemicals.

  • Clove oil is really good at getting rid of ants and so is BiCarb sprinkled around. Also Eucalyptus oil too.

  • If you see ants, wipe them up with a solution of 50-50 vinegar and water, or straight vinegar. White vinegar kills ants and also repels them. If you have an ant problem, try using diluted vinegar to clean hard surfaces, including floors and countertops, throughout your home.

  • Essential Oils (including Peppermint, Tee Tree, Lemon and Orange) are great for keeping ants away. Place a few drops on a cotton ball and wipe around entry points. You can also leave an oil-infused cotton ball in cabinets and other areas as needed. Repeat every few days until the ants are gone.

  • They are also attracted to some soaps. They kept going into the laundry of a friend of ours but they didn’t know why. After a couple of weeks they discovered they were going to soap that the owner, a tradesman was using to get glue and oil of his hands with. They were getting inside via a tiny little hole between the metal window frame and one of the bricks it was fitted to.

  • If you can find their entry point, a chalk line across it is supposed to stop them. Also, a mix of icing sugar and bi carb soda is meant to fe good too. The icing sugar draws them in and the bicarbonate kills them

  • Is it talcum powder? or is that for mice???
