Hello!

I saw this really good video today and it pointed out that your gut is more than a digesting organ. In fact it is responsible for managing a whopping 85% of your immune system! Digest that. Pardon the pun! So does anyone which supplements are more important?

  • Probiotics are more difficult to get through your diet these days as most people don’t eat fermented food and most yoghurt etc doesn’t contain a lot anyway. Having said that, unless you have gut issues or have taken an antibiotic etc to upset the flora in your gut supplements are probably not necessary anyway.

  • Co-incidentally I read an article today in a science magazine that suggests that probiotics are unnecessary in a healthy adult, as are vitamin supplements. I would only take these if your health is not optimal.

  • I don’t think one is particularly more important then the other, I think they’re both vital in a healthy diet. As is lots of fresh healthy food and exercise

  • Gut health seems to be the key to overall health, so I make sure we’re eating fermented foods, kefir milk and when sick I use a probiotic as an extra boost. Also take a good multi too but try to get what I need from whole foods.

  • I had never thought which is more important.

  • I should take a probiotic but I dont. However, I do give my 6 mo a baby biotic in his bottles.

  • My opinion is probotics are probably more important ,as vita.ins can be eaten in our food if u have variety.

  • Gut imbalance is the reason for so many ailments! I’d agree that getting your gut in order is more important than taking vitamins. Once your gut is healed then so many other things just fall into place.

  • The gut is so important, not only physically but psychologically too. I read about a study where depression is actually more linked to imbalances in the gut than chemical imbalances as it always being thought. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-10-25/gut-microbiota-linked-to-health-autism-schizophrenia/5841264
I take probiotics and once a year I take digestive enzymes too. My belly is not bloated anymore since the treatment! I think digestion is really important. So I’d surely recommend you to start taking probiotics.

  • Probiotics are very important if you have had antibiotics as they kill the good bacteria in your system as well as the bad.
It depends on your diet whether or not you need vitamin supplements. If you use sunscreen you may need to rake Vitamin D3., otherwise your body can’t absorb calcium which strengthens your bones, teeth etc. Apparently Magnesium is a good combination with Vitamin D3 too.
If you think you have a vitamin deficiency you could ask your Gp about having blood tests.

  • A pro biotic is always good and very important if you have had antibiotics. as for vitamins it depends on what your lacking or what you don’t get in your diet. I take iron tablets because my body doesn’t absorb the iron from red meat very easily and i also take B6 that my doctor suggested to help with breast tenderness.
