I nearly have enough Flybuy points to get either a Wusthof or Global Knife set. It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time but really couldn’t justify spending much needed $$ on them but now I have the opportunity to get them for free. Have any other MoM’s got these knives & would you recommend them? Have you needed to get them sharpened? If so, after how many years?

  • it all comes down to personal preference. i prefer wustoff they feel more comfortable to use and are a good long term knife. i have now had my wustoff classic knives for over 12 years and they are still great. most butcher shops do knife sharpening but it can range from 4 -6 a knife. but if you use a steel regularly and store them properly the edge will last a long time

  • I have had my set of Wusthof knives for nearly 30 years – still as good as new and I swear by them. I have found the feel of the global ones just not right for me and I have two chef friends who also use Wusthof. We sharpen them ourselves and give a quick run over with the steel just before use and sometimes during if we are doing a lot of cutting.

  • global knives are brilliant, i love my set!

  • Definitely Wusthoff. We bought a complete set, comes with a steel so we sharpen ourselves. Hubby gives them a quick rub each time they’re used, I’m not so keen.

  • Interesting answers and discussion on knives. A good set of knives in the kitchen makes a huge difference!

  • I redeemed my FLYBUY points today & ordered my Global knife block. It’s sleeker & will sit better on my bench top than the Wusthof block.

  • I have a set of each (I am a cook) and have broken a global knife when it hit the floor. My Wustof knives are still all going strong after 10 years. They are both good quality but I find the global handles to be a bit slippery

  • Wursthof for sure they are great my mum had some and they lasted for years.

  • Dont know about better, but I love my global knives

  • Glad I read these answers – I will save up for Wusthof!

  • i have not heard of either sorry!

  • Wusthof definitely. They are better quality and the edge lasts longer. They are german made rather than chinese. (Hubby used to be a chef)

  • I think Global myself :) I need to check my points

  • I personally would go with global – I know more chefs that use them rather than wusthof

  • Wusthof definately

  • I’ve nearly got enough points for these too so will be watching what other mums say :)

  • I personally prefer Global, they are light and easy to use. I have had my set for 10years and they are fantastic

  • I’ve never had experience with either but I have eyed off the Wusthof ones, I would like to own a set.
