Hello!

My bub is 5 months old and eating solids. I am making all his foods at home but haven’t yet been out when he is due a feed at lunch time as I am unsure how to store his food. I have been freezing extra as I make them then defrosting them at home. How can I take this food out with me, and make sure it is at an ideal temperature?

  • Depends on how long you go out for and depends if you want to keep the food cold or warm. Insulated food bags are good either way and so are food thermos flasks

  • just use a thermal lunch bag with ice bricks the same type you see school kids with. just leave your food in the fridge overnight to defrost then pack and go the next day. its also a good idea to get a plastic cutlery container for spoons many customers sell them. when we go out for thips of 4 hrs our food is still safely cold with 3 icebricks

  • You could use a small food thermos that will keep food either hot or cold.

  • Insulated lunch bags are a great buy. And I’ve found that some shops will pop bottles or food in their microwave if you ask

  • Warm it up before you go and put it in a heat bag!

  • There are some wonderful little spoons and container sets (ones with lids) in BigW, I saw them the other day. There are a lot of little insulated bags around too that are great for carting food around in

  • If my little one was going to each within the hour. I warm it up at home and put it in a thermal bag, if we are out for longer I take food that dies not need to be refrigerated or heated unless if we are going to friends or family house

  • You can get small thermos containers that are ideal for their food!

  • I have a little thermos jar that can hold a few items otherwise I use a insulated bag or take somethjng like a sandwich. Some mother’s rooms have microwaves if you need to heat something

  • pop it in a cooler bag with a freezer block, heat the food when required.

  • A lot if food places have microwaves and don’t mind zapping bubs food for a couple of seconds to heat it up, usually with no charge. If you’re going to be out for lunch with bub, why not pack food that doesn’t require heating or being kept cool? Such as sandwiches, fruit etc

  • I would suggest good planning! Some shopping centres have parents rooms that also have a microwave. I tried to make my daughter’s food too but decided that when we went out (which wasn’t that often) that I would bring a baby pouch along. She was happy to eat them either cold or room temperature.

  • Put the frozen portion into the fridge the night before, and then in a chilly bag when you go out. If it’s something that needs to be warmed, take a thermos of hot water and a container that your food container will fit into. For instance, I used to put purées in Zestio reusable squeeze pouches, which fit into a Tupperware Sandwich Keeper. When it was time for food I just opened the sandwich keeper and poured hot water in.

  • I just take it out of the freezer and let it defrost in the bag or if it was not frozen I have a little cooler lunch box that I store it in to keep it cool enough. Then there is always a baby room with a microwave somewhere to warm things up in otherwise cafe’s etc are usually happy to warm baby food up.

  • You can get small thermos containers that are ideal for letting baby food at the right temperature. Otherwise try foods that don’t need to be heated.

  • you can use a cooler bag wit ice block and do veggies or fruit as it is meat and dairy which are the high risk foods.

  • you can buy the little containers at kmart and target. I would place them in a cooler lunch bag and put a ice brick in it also. As for warming food…you could take a flask with hot water in it and sit the food container in a cup with warm water from the flask to heat it up a little bit.

  • get a cool bag and put a cool block in there so take fruit puree etc with you
