In most cases, this is a normal reflex known as the startle, or Moro, reflex. However, in rare cases, these movements may be a sign of a serious condition called infantile spasms. I would speak with the GP when you have concerns.

I personally would speak to your maternal health nurse or Gp about it. It could be nothing just a faze. X

Did you end up seeing someone about this? My 1 year old started doing this also. He would wake up from sleeping and scream and cry and just throw himself back. I can’t hold him or put him down as he just carries on. He is teething so no idea if that has to do with it but it’s so hard to calm him when he is like that.

It could mean that your baby needs to burp so try burping upright. Or it could mean that your baby just want a bit of floor time.

Not sure what it could be, but I’d ask my local doctor or midwife at your community centre.

In my experience, jerking back has meant trapped wind. However it could mean a few different things so I think you should see your family doctor just incase 🙂

I’m not sure if bub has jerking arms or legs as well but my daughter did that and i was told by my mum it was normal bub behaviour but I thought and still think she was having seizures and think it may be a possibility for your bub too. Please mention it to your specialist at check ups or make a doctors appointment.

I am not really sure because my babies haven’t done this before so I can’t really comment but I would book in to see the doctor for information or maybe contact the early childhood centre.

Id Call nurse on call or see a GP because it seems painful to her
