Hello!

Hello mums, my eight month old baby had her routine checkup and MCHN noticed clicking sounds in left hip. She told me it might be hip dysplasia. She has referred me to GP and I am planning to go soon but I can’t wait. What I want to know is can this be a factor in my child’s unique way of crawling? It’s my third bub and I haven’t noticed this type of crawling before in any of them. She drags herself by her arms and does not hold her legs up while crawling. They are lying straight out the back, but she does use her foot a bit to assist with her crawling. Anyone had the same experience? Just need some some peace of mind that it’s going to be ok?

  • My cousin’s fourth daughter had the same issue – she had an op, legs in plaster separated by a metal rod, and you would never know. She is 7 now and has absolutely no issues. Defs get specialist to take a look

  • yeah check with the doc. hope it goes well

  • Hi my daughter was diagnosed with this also when she was around 3 months old, it total freaked me out I was overseas and was told I had to wait until she was 5 months old to have her x-rayed, as you can imagined those weeks were a total nightmare for I would spend every free moment doing research trying to find out what ever I could. Here x-rayed came around and when we saw the doctor he told us that here hip had clicked back into place and nothing further had to be done. It was like a wave of relief had washed over me. I know this doesn’t answer your question but sometimes I just wished I knew about someone else experience, the only thing I would say is go to your doctor see what they have to say and just take one step at a time, in the end your baby will crawl and walk. When my daughter did start crawling she was as the call “commando crawling” (dragging herself on the floor and pulling herself around with her arms) for a good month and a half before crawling on all fours. Good luck with everything

  • I would get baby checked asap, but in the mean time to settle you a little there are different ways for babies to crawl, what you have described sounds to me like she is crawling on her tummy which in fact is a way for babies to crawl and is called exactly that the tummy crawl. Again though I am no expert and I would double check that she is in deed doing the tummy crawl or it is her hips… good luck with it and I hope you get it sorted soon.

  • The sooner you get your daughter to a doctor to get checked, the better for her, and also for your peace of mind. Until then, the following website may help you with information …
