I think you can try going cold turkey for older children (and give a straw or something else entertaining so they can drink from a cup), or introduce a cup (of water) ever so often for younger ones (easier when in the bath or on a hot summer day in case they pour it out!). As the adaptation is made you could also try keeping a bottle just for end of day (when perhaps the most soothing is needed and the change would be hardest) and try the other options earlier in the day.
I use beebox straw cups. They are not a bottle as such but my little one loves his. otherwise a transitional cup with a silicon spout rather than a teat
