Hello!

I want to get my daughter an iPad that she can play on but I dont know much about them. She is always on my laptop so I want to get her something that she can have and use. I also want to be able to use it when I want to. Any info would be great. Thank You.

  • I wouldn’t recommend any Apple products as I do not like them. However, for a very yound person I think something more durable would last longer. Even with hard covers ipads can break easily when dropped (and your child will likely drop and throw the I pad)

  • Also interested in the answers for family, some great suggestions!

  • I brought mine an iPad mini2 and brought the shock proof case, so if they throw it, it doesn’t crack the screen. There are some fantastic app suitable for 1 year olds. Found them great for keeping them distracted when out and about or at the doctors etc.

  • Why don’t you get her one of the kiddie based toy laptop/iPad? Seriously, she’s 1, she does not need an iPad or a tablet, she has no idea to respect it and look after it. One is too young!

  • I bought my iPad last year ,you should go have a look at some on display, big w ,say,I did,got the bigger size, cost $417 with retina just when iPad slim came out,few hundred more, get one like mine not a slim & cheaper.

  • My two year old uses my iPad Air and handles it fine :)

  • For a 1′ year old? Really!? Far too young to be on a device

  • be wary even with covers, my kids have still broken these!

  • Kmart sell cheap rip off iPad things for $59 I’m going to get my son one or Xmas. May be worth checking out:)

  • Samsung actually make a kids tablet that can handle bumps and drops more than the adult ones.

  • maybe a cheap ipad thing but cheap on as might break easy

  • there are some good comments here

  • i would use leapfrog for a 1 year old. my kids love mine

  • I highly recommend an iPad :) Forget about Leapfrog etc, the iPad (or iPad Mini) is the ultimate toy for a toddler, plus it benefit the parent because we can use them too :) It doesn’t have to be Apple either, it could the Samsung equivalent if you wish.

  • Did you end up getting an ipad?

  • Sorry I didn’t think I was being judgemental :) I just don’t think (personal opinion) that children need these gadgets, so 4 is still too young in my mind but in no way are you the only person to buy one for that age group. My nearly 9yr old doesn’t have an ipad, neither do we. I’m just one of those mums that cringe when I see a baby, toddler or young child playing with a mobile phone or ipad. But saying that if your posting a question or comment not everyone is going to agree with you or give you the answer that you may want to hear, its not being judgemental its making a comment that refers to their own personal beliefs :)

  • I wouldn’t be buying an i pad for a child that young. I don’t even let my 19mth old use my mobile for games as not only is he too young but I don’t want him exposed to radiation that young. Personally I think you are better off starting with age appropriate toys (lots of learning toys available) & waiting until your child is older. If you buy things when they are too young you will run out of ideas as they get older :)

  • My suggestion is an Ipad mini with a terrific survival cover! Cant compare the quality definately worth the extra $$ you pay.

  • I would suggest an iPad mini, but be very careful to go into the restrictions menu and set it so she can’t buy anything!

  • my 4 year old neice has a children’s i-pad? bought from Big W, she loves it.
