It’s more about stimulating the economy than increasing the pension in the long run. The government just want people to spend it to keep people employed. Research shows those on lower incomes given a cash bonus are more likely to spend it than middle and higher income people.
I think budgets are a huge hot topic at the moment. I understand there are so many people who are in financial difficulty, but I also think that we (as a society) live in a very disposable income thought process. I have people who spend whatever money they get, without thinking about what happens on a rainy day, now the rains are here, they are trying to get whatever they can from the government (even though their finances before were crazy!)
