Hello!

OK it’s not a tent, it’s a van. But I’m a single mum and this is my first camping trip to a friend’s permanent van.

So…

How do you bath a 17 month old at a caravan park? He can stand but only just recently started walking. Do I take a portable bath?

  • Depends how long you’re going for. For just a few days, a washcloth and a sink would probably be enough.

  • Camping is my area of expertise.
Don’t over think it. It can come across as stressful but it doesn’t have to be.
Shower with your child, take a collapsible bucket, use a portable shower, wash them down in the sink.
Check the amenities online before arriving, some parks have family amenities with a bath, or a bath sink.
If you’re worried about your child sitting in the showers, pack your own non slip mat so they can sit on it in the shower.

  • Don’t think too much, it might jinx you. Just enjoy the camping.

  • Depending on how long you’re away, and how grubby he gets, you might be able to get away with just cleaning him with a washcloth. If it’s only going to be a weekend, I’d seriously consider that. Otherwise, I’d suggest that you could make a game of it and dump a bucket of water on him….

  • Oh how fun! Relax and enjoy your trip!
Bathing wise you could check what the park already has available. If they don’t have a suitable tub or bucket you could just bring a bucket that you can also use for other things. Depending on how much money you want to spend you can also get inflatable baby baths online. That would not take up too much room.
Have a wonderful time! All the best!

  • What’s wrong with a sink? I wouldn’t bother with a portable bath. Relax and enjoy yourself

  • You won’t need to buy anything special to bathe him. Just bring him in the shower with you. So much easier and no need to buy anything to have to lug around. It’s special too because he gets to shower with his Mummy. Just turn it into an adventure and it will be fun.

  • How long are you camping for? Will bubs go in the shower with you? If not maybe just a big bucket he can stand in while you give him a good wash down especially if you aren’t going to be there for too long. I honestly wouldn’t stress over it too much, Have fun

  • I would just have a shower with Bub! Or if you really need to bath him I would take a large bucket/flexi tub. They can be useful for many things!

  • A 17 month old I would just stand in the showers with me. Take things and easy as. Can always take a pop up bath too if that’s easier

  • You can get these great pop up buckets that you can pop down when they aren’t needed for easier storage when travelling. Something like that might work for you if they done have any facilities. It also depends on how long you’ll be going for as to if you may need one or not.

  • Most places have facilities. but could always use a washcloth or some wipes depending on how long your going.

If you friend has a van though surely they have something you can wash bin in

  • Relax! Whatever problems arise, you’ll be able to work through. Just chill and enjoy the experience. You’ll love it

  • Check the laundry or bathrrom facilities at the park . They often have them.

  • A 17th month old would just love being bathed in a sink big enough to fit him and there are usually plenty of these in the laundry facilities. That’s where my littlies were bathed.

  • My kids have both been camping since they were babies. We went camping for about a week once when my son was around 2yrs. We used one of those bendy gardening buckets. It was just big enough for him to sit in with his legs bent a little. He absolutely loved it- it was all part of the adventure and it kept him clean!

  • I wonder if you maybe have already a blow up kids pool ? That might also be an idea, that way you wouldn’t have to buy it. But even when you would have to buy it Kmart has plenty and cheap options. You could set it outside the van and watch your child when it’s splashing and playing.

  • A portable bath is a great idea but I recently went on my first camping trip too and I heard some sites have shower facilities. It might be worthwhile checking if the site has one so that you can just bathe them in there since they can stand by themselves already

  • Also important to consider how you are travelling, how long you’re staying for and how much space you’ve available in the van.
Have you thought about a portable inflatable bath, they’re light, easy to pack and reusable.
You can find them on Amazon, but ebay has great options too for example this one

  • Always make sure there is enough room for packing items.
