Hello!

My family eats a lot of mince for dinner (beef, but could be chicken or pork) but I am so sick of making the same things! Spag bol, cottage pie and meatballs….. My fussy kids eat them and I can grate (hide) veggies into these dishes. Anyone have any other ideas that are relatively easy and would be eaten by a fussy 2 and 4 year old?

  • My 4 year old loves Mexican chicken as does the rest of the family and it’s so easy, chicken breast cut into smaller pieces (larger than bite size I usually get 4 pieces from each breast) put in a bag and with taco spice and shake to coat. Chicken then goes in a baking dish with Mexican salsa on top. Bake for 45 mins for the last 5 to 10 minutes of baking I sprinkle grated cheese on top. Serve with rice (I usually just get the uncle Ben’s Mexican rice which I sometimes add some chopped up veggies to

  • Minced meats can be used in many dishes. Meatloaf, burgers, rissoles, stir fry, pasta bakes/dish, taco, enchildas, burrito, chow mein, loaded wedges, nachos, fried rice.
    Hope these help.

  • we do a lot of platters where the kids then get to choose what they put on their plates – they have to choose something from each colour though. That way they are getting lots of nutrition but also having a bit of choice and ownership over the food – kids love that. Omelettes with some grated cheese, carrot and zucchini or even pancakes with these things in them or fritatta, are a great way to add in some veg. Wraps or kebabs are good and kids love things on sticks – more fun to eat.

  • There are so many wonderful and easy recipes on the dinner site here to look at!

  • Pasta bakes are great and cheap.
You can do lots of variations.

  • Mince burgers is a good and fun idea.

  • Meatloaf is a good one and is so tasty with mash. Kids love this type of meal.

  • Mini pizzas on pitta breads? The kids could get involved and that might make them keen to eat them if they’ve actually helped to prepare them. Frittatas are yummy and easy. My toddler loves lamb chops/ cutlets – they can be a bit expensive but they’re guaranteed to be eaten (they’re like lamb lollipops!).

Pasta is always yummy and related to that would be gnocchi. Aldi and Costco both have great packets of spinach and ricotta ravioli which are great. Costco also sells a brilliant Spanikopita which is massive and delicious!

  • I found my lil dude loves whole roasted chicken very cheap too

  • Making a quiche is also something my kids love and I can hide spinach in there and they love it.

  • Burgers , Mexican dishes , home made sausage rolls.

  • I find my kids love chicken wraps and I think part of the fun for them is that they get to choose the topping and make their own!

  • My kids all love tacos and burritos. Hubby loves shepherds pie (and it’s easy to make and great for Winter)

  • my kids loved stirfry and you can use minced anything if you don’t want to do meat pieces.

  • Pasta with meatballs!!!

  • We been having Tacos ,let kids help make them ,different fillings & hidden vegetables in mince base .

  • Wow! So many new ideas! Thank you ladies! Time to start planning some new dishes! :-)

  • stuffed cabbage rolls, lasagne, sausages rolls, burritos/tacos/nachos, burger patties, koftas, savoury slices, pasta bakes, ragus, risottos, meatloaf, Spring rolls, stir fry, chow mien,

  • Chow Mein, Lasagne, Pasta Bake, Rissoles, Moussaka, Pies, Meatloaf, Nachos, Burritos, Bolognese Jacket spuds, Burgers, Beefy Risotto, Hotpot, Stroganoff ….

  • One that my kids love is I buy the chicken kebabs from the supermarket & take the meat off the stick & cook it up ( you could easliy marinate any of your own meat this is just quicker & easier) I then cook up a batch of rice & you can add anything else you like to make a mini stirfry or just the meat on rice is quick & simple.
I have also brought the continental pasta packets & made them as directed, I fry up some onion & bacon & any vegies youlie & add this along with a tin of tuna to make a quick & easy pasta dish
