Just wondering what other mums are doing when it comes to preparing meals and the food pyramid for a one year old? Please provide an example of daily feeding routine including milk.

  • Breakfast: cooked oats with pinch of cinnamon and grated apple or Blueberries
Lunch: boiled egg, cucumber sticks, slices of tomato, cheese, left over cooked meat from dinner, small sandwich
Dinner: whatever the family is having – I just cut meat up into small chunks. Steamed carrot sticks, broccolini, peas
Snacks: fresh fruit, rice cakes, good quality yoghurt (not the flavoured stuff)

I still breastfeed after breakfast, lunch and before bed for the night. I have just weaned overnight. My bub turns 1 tomorrow!

  • For dessert or morning meals I make my own instant oats cook them with pear or apple or peaches and then freeze it. My bubba loves it. He also goes crazy for lasange.

  • there are a few great websites with diagrams too for this.

  • well i loved to give my child a little bit of everything. sandwiches, cracker, a bit of fruit just for lunch. breakfast is great for providing a lot of the good stuff

  • Lots of fruit and veg and watch out for hidden sugars in things people think are healthy like yoghurts.

  • I had twins and by the time they were one they were basically eating the same food as us, cooked vegies, cut up meats, breads, constant access to water, cereal for breakfast, yoghurt, custards, I found that at dinner they would sit in their high chairs and feed themselves, yes it made a mess but they ate their dinner and they always have enjoyed vegetables, even munching on a sausage, obviously common sense has to prevail with anything that may be a choking hazard but basically I did the ;’free feeding’ thing and it worked well for us.

  • my kids are much older now, but I only gave them mashed up or pureed fruit and veg. Though if they had a few teeth I gave them soft fruit to eat as is like banana.
They had weetbix or breakfast (heated in winter) and then some veg for lunch and dinner with a milk bottle at night. I gave them a little milk with lunch. Water the rest of the time.
I also gave them crackers for snacks…easy for them to suck on and go soft.

  • Well, I haven’t got a 1yr old these days… but we only ever gave our kids real foods, raw fruit that was processed, or cooked vegetables that were blended/mashed. They didn’t (and still don’t) like much meats, but did like fish.. By time they were 1, they were on milk cups 2 x per day, and 1 milk bottle at night. The rest of their drinks were just water, sometimes freshly squeezed juice…

I breastfeed right up until 12-13mths, they didn’t eat much until after i weaned them off the breast and introduced cow’s milk.
