Hello!

What can I bake for the school fete? Does anyone have any good ideas for donating baked goods for the school fete – and what’s the protocol, do you need to put a sticker on with the list of ingredients because of allergies?

  • Cupcakes always do well and id just print a copy of the ingredients so if anyone asks they’re on hand.

  • Cakes, muffins or brownies are always a winner!

  • Yes, you need a sticker with ingredients. We just type them out once (in an excel spreadsheet), then copy paste repeatedly, generating a whole page of little tags quite quickly. It’s easy for the kids to cut them out.

  • Absolutely, without a doubt label your baked treats with a full ingredients list!!
Other than that bake to your hearts content, cupcakes, muffins, smartie biscuits, apricot balls, cherry ripe slice, the list is endless!!
    I love school fêtes!!

  • I’d stay away from anything with nuts as they may not be allowed anyway. Chocolate balls are always a hit, so are toffees. Slices (lemon slice, choc hedgehog slice, caramel slice etc are all good)
Kiss biscuits, melting moments or monte carlos.
I’d make up labels and list all ingredients to be safe

  • Cupcakes are always really good! Really interesting reading the comments to this!

  • Yes a list of ingredients included, make something you know everyone will love brownies or something like banana bread?

  • Mars bar slice is a huge hit with everyone and cheap and easy to make. Make a whole lot of these and they will be gone within half an hour ,you’ll make a fortune!!

  • I usually send vegan cupcakes with an ingredient list.

  • Yes put a list of ingredients on it, I find honey joys, chocolate crackles, old fashioned fudge, and cupcakes, I always avoid nuts just to be sure, If I am doing log cakes, I cheat and do basic chocolate cakes, or if it is banana season, banana cake. I find these go quick and the small things are cheap to make and cheap to sell for the kids, cakes can be expensive to make. the other thing is marshmallows in ice cream cones sprinkled with hundreds and thousands, just make sure the marshmallow is fairly firm before putting it in the cone to avoid it becoming soggy, big hit with the kids.

  • Depends if you take into consideration of dietary requirements.

I have a friend that is lactose and gluten intolerant and my go to is generally honey crackles (bearing in mind you use a butter substitute)

  • toffee, no nuts, no dairy, no this or that! and what kids want, sugar!!

  • This easy recipe makes 120 yummy biscuits and they’re really popular with adults and children. They’re easy to make, and you can substitute chocolate chips for the glace ginger.
If you package them up yourself, I’d definitely put an ingredients label on them. It’s easy to do, just make a small list of ingredients in a word document, cut & paste the list so you’ve got enough for all the packages and include a list in each package.

  • Anything you bake has to list ingredients due to allergies, I find cupcakes go down real well, especially nicely decorated ones

  • Anyone that has serious allergies would never buy something from a bake sale anyway but just to cover your butt it might pay to phone the school and simply ask.

Things like chocolate slice are good as they can slice it up and make up as many different packs as they want.
    Various flavoured Muffins.
Date Scones or Savory Scones are always good.

  • All places are different but generally a list of ingredients on a small sticker. That way those that are allergic to everything can steer clear. I think chocolate cake, cup cakes and date loaves are great.

  • Yes, you do need to put a list of ingredients on the plate. I like truffle balls (without the rum of course) or “Marie” biscuits decorated with icing faces are popular with kids

  • My kids would ask me yo make them Toffee’s easy sugar, vinegar, water and food colouring. That it!
They would sell out so fast that my kids tell me to make double batches, then triple. The teachers loved them too!
Old school childhood memories. Toffee apples would sell well too. I would wrap these on cellophane and ribbon.

  • Cupcakes are massively popular at the moment with kids and adults. Yes, please put an ingredients list on every package. Also gluten free would be a hit – coeliacs always miss out. For GF I would use a packet mix so you could be certain that the whole cake etc is suitable.

Just an idea you could have plain cupcakes and then at fete there could be an area to decorate a cupcake. Single/plain could go for $1 but decorated could be $2 each.

  • there are some good comments here
