Hello!

She’s fine with wees but only comes to us after the deed is done. Sometimes she will tell us beforehand, and occasionally she’ll go by herself, but the majority of the time she comes to us with a sad expression on her face. She knows it’s yucky. She hates the feeling of it. But for the past couple of months we seem to have gone backwards. We don’t get cross with her (but express disappointment / how yucky it is when she poos in her pants). Any advice?

  • Mcspenny had a couple of great suggestions that I would try. I hope all went well.

  • My kids went to daycare from 9 months a few days a week as I had to go back to work the best potty training as all the kids do it there they copy both fully potty trained day and night by 2years 9 months – we just follow through at home….they all do at own age / stage

  • hope you got the answers you were looking for. this is a hard one. have you tried a little reward system. like a balloon, stamp on the hand or sticker when she makes it to the loo for poo’s. if there’s something fun in it for her she may remember to go a bit quicker. :)

  • i hope it has gotten better, our daughter does the same thing too

  • I have heard of kids going backwards then just picking it up again, good luck

  • Make it a more positive experience… She may be feeling pressure because you are expressing disappointment. Try some rewards.

  • Poor thing. Patience and encouragement and if no changes in a few months I would seek advice from your doctor.

  • It must be a girl thing because my daughter is the same and nothing has work e.g charts, rewards eft.Im just waiting now for her to get it in her own time now.

  • I know ifs frustrating – but she will get it! It’s completely normal for them to go backwards sometimes!

  • I use to reward my little man each time he did a number 2 id reward him by letting him pick a toy out of the toy bag, he loved trash packs so i got a heap and it encouraged him till it became habit! Good luck but persistance is the key!

  • Just persevere with it, eventually she will understand about the poo and start going to the potty

  • We just has a little toilet seat that went over the normal one and my son just had free reign over the bathroom, I believe the pull ups training pants worked wonders to, maybe a DVD such as bears potty time may help to talk about recognising the feeling of needing to go.

  • have you tired sticker charts? it worked wonders with my neice, basically anything positve she will respond to should do the trick :0 goodluck

  • My sister was the same (so my Mum keeps telling me) and would go and hide behind the apple tree to do her poo…! She had to get over it herself. And still doesn’t like anyone telling her what to do.

  • Would love to hear ideas as I am about to embark on the toilet training journey

  • Pardon the pun, but I used to poo-poo the whole rewards chart idea – but, out of sheer desperation I have tried it. It works.

  • A rewards chart could help. Every successful time she goes she will get a tick. Once she has a certain amount of ticks she gets a reward of some kind.

  • This is something our daughter is struggling with as well, just keep encouraging her she will learn in time.

  • I think at this age, they are a little frightened of the poo coming out and try to prevent it. I know one little darling who will go and hide under a table or in her room when she needs to poo and she is nearly 3. Eventually they do get to know that the pain in their tummy isn’t bad and that it is just poo and start to go. Good luck
