  • I’ve planted 2 chilli bushes this year. Good to know if I have an excess I will be able to freeze them. Thanks everyone

  • Yes you definitely can

  • awesome – just bought a big freezer – another thing I can pop in there!

  • Yes you can :)
Pop them into freezer bags & they should be fine.
Divide them up into single uses so it is easier for you to get them out & if your freezer has drawers maybe pop them in one of them so they don’t take up to much of your freezer room.

  • You sure can. As long as you only use them in cooking recipes after defrosting as they like their crisp freshness after being frozen. You could also store them in jars of olive oil, add some garlic and herbs if you like. Then you have the added benefit of flavoured oil as well

  • I always have left over chillies,l put them in a freezer bag and they are fine!

  • Yes, you can freeze chillies. I put mine is a freezer bag. Makes it so much easier to chop up.

  • it’s good to know that you can freeze chillies. you really need to because sometimes you just get to many from one bush

  • I freeze chillies all the time and just remove them from the plastic bag as I need them. Have been freezing chillies for quite a few years now and never had a problem.

  • yes they freeze very well indeed.

  • I freeze things like parsely and corriander ect dont see why you couldnt freeze chilli

  • try freezing both fresh and dried chillies. You could also keep dry chillies in an airtight container without having to freeze them. Just hang them upside down in a sunny spot from a piece of string until they are completely deydrated

  • I have a stash in my freezer in a zip lock bag for when I make chilli con carne and they are fine :)

  • I didn’t know chillies can be frozen thanks for the tips. One question though, once thawed do they stay chilli? My grandad dries out the chillies and grinds them in the coffee grinder and they’re super chilli :) I love it

  • Yes i did this with mine and they are still good

  • Yes, I freeze just about everything, make sure they are locked up tight.

  • I like the chop up method, then spread them on a tray and pop them in the freezer till firm, then simply pop them in a freezer bag, suck out the air and pop them in the freezer. By scattering them first and freezing till firm, when you put them in the freezer bags I find when you have to use them they are not all stuck together. Good luck:-) with what ever method you use.

  • I knew you could freeze them, but I didn’t know you had to keep them airtight. No wonder mine always looked terrible once defrosted

  • The best way to use up all the chillies is to dry them & then put them thru the processor & you have dried chilli flax to sprinkle on food.

  • Most definately, i freeze mine in ziplock baggies
