I second getting the sturdiest pair! I suggest googling different brands to become familiar with parent’s reviews to them and then go into the glasses shop knowing a bit more info. The optometrist should be able to give you a point in the right direction too.

Children require tough , durable frames. because kids give them a bit of punishment. I bought an expensive break proof pair of specs for my son when he was at school and guess what the first day he wore them they broke! I rang up the optician and told him. I took them back and they replaced them with a new frame and gave my son a subtle sheet of how to care for your specs. I still have them at home and they are as good as new. They were worth $185 after all. My son will be 43 soon and he got these glasses at primary school.

My son also had a referral at his 4 year old health check up. While he didn’t end up needing glasses we had talked about it to prepare him for it. Told him he could pick them out, would get a special cleaning cloth and container. Tried to make it sound special.

Some swing them around by the arms. It strains them and after awhile they break. Grrrr!!! Don’t risk your child’s eyesight for the sake of the cost of glasses. We only have one pair of eyes. Some of the very cheap frames are false economy. Even adults who are very careful in handling their glasses need their frames adjusted as they tend ot bend a little bit, and affect your vision. Cheap frames can be very difficult to adjust successfully without weakening. Adjustments are free so don’t try to do it yourself. Optometrists and their assistants have the training and experience. I think your child has probably been referred to an Opthalmologist (I think that is how it is spelt) as they have higher qualifications. Although I was very surprised to discover how much medical knowledger a Optometrist has.

My sister in law has a son who is in primary school and has to wear glasses. Probably best to chat with your local optometrist on how to manage children with glasses especially when they are a young age and they have a habit of taking them off .

They are not all too bad. My sister had glasses from 6 months and I did from 5 years. Your attitude will really help.
