Hello!

We have two orange trees in our back yard, and they are absolutely laden with oranges. I love using them to make fresh orange juice, and I’m going to try making Candied Orange Rind as well (although I’ve never done this before, so I hope it works out). I give away bags of them to neighbours, friends & family, but there’s still way too many oranges for us to use. Do any of the Mums have ideas of other ways that I can use them, so that they don’t go to waste?

  • fruit salad, juice, or even making ice poles with the juice

  • Oranges salad, orange sorbet or jelly oranges.

  • I know that there’s a local child-care centre not far from me, so I’ll take some oranges there for the children. I spoke to a guy who runs a small local fruit & veg shop near us, and he said he’ll take all the oranges I want to get rid of. He’ll let me take fruit & veg as a swap for the oranges, so that’s a pretty good bargain in my book.

  • Marmalade, or what about a local community centre that could use them to feed people or make things with them.. or the best way to store them I was told in a cold dark area in sand ( it keeps them fresher longer.. also pot purri, you can dry the organges in the oven

  • They can make great cleaning products- you can find various recipes on google. You could look at donating some to local sports clubs, selling them at farmers markets. Some areas have veggie swaps -people get together and swap excess produce.

  • I’ve found a recipe for Orange Marmalade in my Nanna’s old recipe book, so I’ll give that a go. Hadn’t thought of freezing them, but I’ll freeze some juice and grated rind, so I’ve got it to use in cooking when the oranges are no longer on the tree.

  • I would make some marmalade and squeeze them for fresh orange juice, oranges can also be frozen to eat in the hot weather, you can add the zest to cakes and also the juice to make icing

  • in a fruit salad is yummy 🙂
